  • If you leave me can I come too?

Posted by Timbothirroul on September 3, 2023 at 4:23 am

Have you left TAC and came back after a spell? I have hung on to my 500 odd streak, most of my activities are in other areas than the daily challenge (although I do them as well) I have gone through a lot of the vault and the skill courses.

I am afraid that if I leave TAC, although I will have access to most of the things I do now, except the daily challenges which are repeating a lot, my consistency will disappear.

    Has anyone experienced this.

A bit of a false negative, I know, because anyone who has been successful wont be here!

I just wonder how much of coming here has to do with consistency or can it be maintained outside of TAC?

    Thanks for reading

I don’t know because I am still here. But I don’t see a reason to change what is working. I don’t mind the Daily Challenge’s periodic repetition because there are still new series of lessons. Most recently there are challenges built around a specific song and that is fresh and fun. I look at the Challenge repetition like reordering a meal at the restaurant. I’ve gotten hungry since the last time I ate it. Techniques are like meals and need to be eaten again. They go away. Anyway, thanks for the thread and motivating us to think through it.

What do you mean when you say your consistency disappearing?

If you are referring to practicing everyday, what is it about TAC that brings you back everyday? There are lots of ways to motivate oneself. I use a 3rd party app to track my progress and streaks and that is enough to keep me motivated.

Is it the variety? That would be a little tougher for me to replicate outside of TAC, but I would probably do it by setting up a full month of practice sessions, listing what I would practice each day and follow that.

Basically what are you are getting from TAC at this point that helps your consistency?

I tried to learn many times on my own with super limited success to show. I found TAC 8ish years ago and have never looked back. Consistency is key, without a doubt, but as others pointed out there are other ways to find consistency. What keeps me here everyday is ease of use and confidence that what I do here on a daily basis continues to make me a better player. Best of all I do not spend one second even thinking about it…I just do it. Tony is my teacher. I paid big funds to have him as my teacher. Under his instruction I have become the player I wanted to be but never could on my own cherry picking instruction. Nothing but big bold G chords from me. I have learned not to try and fix what is not broken. I guess if I were not making progress I would look elsewhere for primary instruction. Have not hit that wall yet.
