My guitar Routine
Hey TAC Family!!!
I wanted to show you what my routine looks like
1.) How many days per week do you play?
Right now because I will start a second full time job this coming Monday, I will be practicing on Saturday and Sunday an hour each day. After seven weeks of that I will move to practice 5 days a week for 20 – 30 minutes a day.
2.) What time of day do you play?
At this time it will be late afternoon or evening when things are a little quieter. Then after school lets out for the summer and I only have my afternoon job, I will be practicing mid mornings.
3.) Where do you play?
I have a room set up in my basement away from distractions.
4.) What was your guitar life like before having a guitar routine & how has implementing a consistent guitar routine helped you? (if possible name 3 ways).
When I was about 8 or 9 years old my dad got my two brothers and I started with guitar lessons. I think that he hope we would become a popular band. Well, that did not last too long because it was a 6o mile drive from Brown County Indiana to Indianapolis.
Move to my Sophomore year at Johnson Bible college and one of the students that worked with during the summer months was a guitar player. He said he would teach me. So, he took me to a shop in Knoxville, TN and I purchased an Alvarez acoustic with brass bridge and nut.
While Tom was a good guitar player he did not break it down and suggest developing a routine. But, when I began serving in my first ministry in Farwell, MI, I met the elementary music teacher my sons had in school. She started group lessons at the school. I took those for over a year and was able to lead worship somewhat acceptably
But after a while things just got busier and it crowded out any regular practice. Kind of off and on for the past twenty years. I now have an Alvarez acoustic electric, a Yamaha Pacifica electric, and a Breedlove Dreadnought Studio. When I saw the ad for TAC, I thought, that may be the answer. I got off to a slow start and I must agree with you that the 30 Days to Play will definitely take me at least 90 days.
– Encouraging me to be regular and accountable
– I enjoy hearing the success stories and know if I stick to it, it will eventually come.
– I have always enjoyed music and many different genres, and being able to play and possibly write songs brings excitement.
5.) Bonus Question: What is one non-guitar item that is a must have in your guitar routine? Patience and persistence.
