  • New Orleans Is Sinking (The Tragically Hip)

    This is a blues tinged hard rocker from a Canadian band that came out in 1989. It has great, harsh, electric blues guitar riffs and strong vocals. An acoustic can’t capture it, even with someone who can sing well, which I can’t. This is a favorite though, so I decided to put together a version of it anyway. After several takes, I chose this one. I missed my mark when trying to do a few solo notes in the middle; oh well; played on. My apologies to anyone who is a fan of the song. It was a fun one to do.

    I’d like to see Billy Strings take a crack at it. Love this song. Love that band. Well done. Way to put yourself out there.

    I had not heard this song before. And this was pre-Katrina! And brave of you to attack it. Again, you are having fun. Hurray.

    @FingerLakesChris I’m sure Billy would find this pretty easy. He is such a monster. Thanks for listening!

    @albert_d Yes, enjoying guitar, having fun, and making some noise. Thanks for listening!

    Hey Phil that was great…you were rocking! As a proud Canadian, the Hip is one of my all time favourite bands and you nailed this classic! ” I had my hands in the river, my feet back up on the banks. Looked up to the Lord above and said, hey Man, thanks.” Incredible. So glad to see it here…made my day Phil. thanks brother, keep em coming!

    @Braden

    Thank you for the kind words! I really enjoy this one. The vocals and guitar tone in the original is great.

    Dang, look at you racking out! Great string, hand and string coordination of memory. You did great with speed, and it was obvious you enjoyed it. Rock on!
