Greetings, I just signed up for TAC and wanted to introduce myself. My name is David and have been “playing around” on a guitar for years and have tried other “Learning programs” in the past, but none have worked for me. (My fault I am sure) I am now retired & 58 years old and still can’t play a complete song on the guitar, I hope I’m not too old of a dog to learn a new trick if you know what I mean. This looks like a different way to learn than any other program I’ve seen before. I am really looking forward to getting started.

Hi @David-D and welcome to the TAC family! I hope you are able to jump right in. I suggest you start with the 30 days to play course, even if you have some knowledge of playing already. It’s a fun course, and you’ll learn a lot. Look around the forums and the courses. If you feel more comfortable waiting to start the daily lessons, while you go through the 30 day used to play course, that is perfectly okay. Many people do that. Hope you have lots of fun, and don’t be a stranger in the forums.

    Hey David-D!

Loraine has nailed it– read thru her post………. at least twice more.

Important— FOCUS on her last sentence.

If I was to add anything- I would say:

Be kind– and patient– with yourself; allow- (actually- expect)- yourself to struggle at times. Remember that if it was “too easy”, you wouldn’t get to enjoy that “inner”/quiet feeling of satisfaction inside of you when you complete something tough, or start to see real, noticeable, improvement(s)– (and, you WILL see improvements!)

Don’t compare yourself with anyone else- and also don’t compare yourself….. with your OWN expectations.

Welcome- have fun— “See ya around”-

Welcome! Great advice from those above. After 30 days to play, look over the skill courses, especially the getting started courses, and see what appeals to and fits you. Jump into the daily challenges when you want to. Even if they seem over your head, as they did with me at first, just working through them, a little time each day on that days lesson, then moving on; you will be amazed how your skills start to build on top of each other. Jump in, have fun, enjoy!

P.S. I started TAC when I was almost 68, turning 71 in 2 weeks. It is not too late. It works.

Welcome David! Not too late, many “late bloomers” here, I started at 60 years old and am now at 1000+ lessons with Tony. This is how I start every day.

Welcome Dave! I’m 52 with a bunch of brain drain issues… I can vouch for this site! The key for success is exactly what Tony and anyone else will tell you, 10 min a day same bat channel etc… Figure out a spot time and all that works for you and stick with it. You will see some gains in no time. Check out Fretboard wizard once your done with all the intro and got your feet wet! Most importantly, Have fun!
