    Greetings, Guitar Community!

My name is John, I’m new, and I’m excited to be part of this site and community. I started on Monday, so I only have a few days under my belt. I signed up for “TAC Guitar Routine” and “Fretboard Wizard”. I want to make sure that I understand what I should be doing on a daily basis and where Fretboard Wizard comes into play. Also, I noticed something called the Daily Challenge, which threw me off as I’m not sure if I should doing that each day (as well as the daily lessons) as a newbie or not. Any advice would be MUCH APPRECIATED! 😀

    Welcome!

The Daily Challenge and “daily lesson” are the same thing.

Make sure to start with “30-Days to Play”.

Really explore all the TAC site has to offer– (all the Skills courses for example…)

DON’T be in a rush— your brain will take it all in— better— if you let it have the TIME to take it all in

You will get lots of great advice right here in the Forum— (so don’t be a stranger here)

GET RID of your own self-expectations…….. and focus on the FUN!

    Welcome John.

Good advise from the Old Coach. You may start to get emails every Monday telling you about the challenges for the week ahead. Don’t worry about these until you are ready. They do repeat so you won’t be missing anything.

You are on your own pace and not competing with anyone but yourself. So enjoy each day!

Also, after the initial “30 Day Challenge”, do the “5-Day Challenge” next. This is the introductory set of the regular “Daily Challenge” courses, and will explain how those regular challenges work.

I did that 30-day Challenge, then the 5-day, then the Fretboard Wizard before I started the Daily Challenges. You should periodically repeat the Fretboard Wizard every few months to help the lessons sink in, the things discussed in there will relate to things in the Daily Challenges, and will help it all make sense. Personally, I enjoyed the Fretboard Wizard the most of everything so far. I think understanding those concepts will help make everything else fit together better in my head.

Couldn’t agree more. If no previous playing experience, 30 day challenge is great, but I skipped many of the first lessons on the 30 day challenge due to some past experience. I still watched them all though.Once through the 30 day challenge, you can start with the 5 day challenge of the week. To me, the best part about this course is the positivity and habit forming part of the routine. There are also benchmark challenges and these can really show your growth from the previous time working on these. I also like how each week focuses on certain techniques that apply to many other songs and builds these skills.

Vinny– Another perfect add-in to this thread! Remember— other new members are watching-along, and this is all really helpful to them…. (we were ALL there once!).

I am one of those guys. Did the 30 days, then the 5 days and on to daily challenges. It seems like I missed something because things don’t seem to be connecting. Didn’t know about fretboard wizard or when to use it

I agree. The jump from the 30-day and 5-day routines to the regular Daily Challenges seems like a bigger step than what there should be for a beginner. I did the Fretboard Wizard before starting the Daily Challenges, and while the concepts of FW went well in my head, the Daily Challenges have been much more frustrating as far as execution on the guitar. I’m still new here, but I think doing the TAC program, along with something else more toward learning specific songs at the same time, would help with overall motivation. Tony stresses “small wins”, but the reward of perfecting a technique that you’re “going to use again someday” is a different feeling than the reward of playing a familiar song through.

Remember that there can be no “one-size-fits-all” when we all start out in TAC, because we are all at a different starting point; we all have different levels of experience when we show up here.

What seems very difficult and/or confusing to one…. might seem too easy for another…. and BOTH can cause confusion, problems, and maybe anxiety at the very start of entering the world of TAC.

My advice?…….. be cool……… let things happen (especially at the very start) instead of trying to make things happen. Explore all there is to offer within the TAC website, and find the “TAC-groove” that fits you.

It’s a great sight and a great system…. at the start, you are just a car trying to merge onto the freeway. Allow yourself to blend-in to the flow…….

Hate to reply to my own post(s)……. but my own self-consciousness always seems to think of things I should have put in…….. after I post. Upon re-reading it (and after it was too late to edit it) I realized that in the last line I used “sight” instead of “site” (or website)…… duh…….
