Original “Tough Pick” Video
Posted by TMutter on December 3, 2024 at 9:52 pmThis is for you @albert_d !
I wrote this song after trying to explain GAS to a friend. I also have started making music videos for my new songs just as another creative outlet. And….. yes I really bought a guitar ( always wanted a tele and this was a good excuse !). I still dont have the chops to pull of the lead guitar performance I wanted for the song, so for the first time, I brought in a “hired gun” friend (Corban Welter), to pull that off – and he did a great job. My daughter sings backing vocals and as you will see we had fun goofing off for the camera. Hope you like it. It is out there in the streaming land as well.

Ah man, I missed your songs. This was great. I loved how much fun you had. The tele sounds awesome! You probably could have pulled off the lead, but then we wouldn’t have your rhythm. It was great to see your daughter’s still performing with you. Corbin’’s a great player and must have done you proud. He’s also got to have the best hair I’ve seen in a while.

Corban is amazing – Berkley music graduate and multi instrument player – and that hair – like a mane ! And thats after he got it cut !

You certainly are a creative force. Lot’s of fun and your lyrics made me smile!

I could be mistaken, but that looked like a lot of fun. Well done!

thanks for listening ! Another fun fact is that I could not actually use a pick until TAC and now I use one all the time with out thinking about it.

This is Fun (and good) on so many levels.
1) The creative song writing and lyrics.
2) The performing by your daughter, Colton, you, and the videographer.
3) The production. I have tried some and it is extremely time consuming, but so much fun. I’ve found each minute of video takes a couple of hours of back work. The angles, the snipping, the transitions, the special effects [like the color fade] are each a project in their own.
So kudos to you my fellow guitar acquiring geek for a job well “fun”. Hats off to you.

@albert_d thanks ! you are spot on. The video stuff is super time consuming but I have to admit I actually enjoy the other creative outlet it provides. You can check out a few other videos on my YouTube page (Terry_Mutter_Music) – “Mr Warthog” was my first effort. I am getting better at story boarding and shot planning that helps the pre-production process go a little faster but it still takes a good chunk of time. I also enjoy the challenge of figuring out the marketing side of releasing music in the “new frontier” of the music business. From what I have learned is now a musician needs to add skills in social media, video production, etc etc to get their music heard. I am not expecting great things, I just enjoy the creative outlet of the music and visual arts and the marketing strategy as an intellectual and technology exercise.

@langerking thanks so much for listening. I have a report card from 4th grade where the teacher said “Terry often amuses himself with his own humor…”. So I thought this song was funny but was worried some folks my think …..”what is this guy thinking ” . Glad you enjoyed it !

Nice! I can relate. More guitars than I can play, and still NEED a Tele. The proper number of guitars to own is one more than you currently have.
