picks

I have a classical guitar and have never used picks. Do I need to start using them?

@jberry6mac-com Welcome to the TAC community! I understand not using a pick with a classical before, but you might want to purchase some to take full advantage of what TAC offers. Tony teaches not only fingerstyle, but also flat picking and strumming with a pick, and using just your fingers will be difficult on many lessons.

My number one guitar is a classical Ephipone I bought back in 1968. I love it. I like it’s sound, tone and classical strings and its wide neck. Why I like the sound and tone are obvious. I like the classical strings because they are easier on my old hands and joints as I’ve aged. I like the wide neck because it helps me stretch my fingers a little farther and keeps me more flexible. But if I’m playing it on a given day (I usually play the guitar closest to me at the time) I use a pick on with it when the challenge calls for a pick. I’m a better finger picker than picker picker, but I keep working with the pick to broaden my abilities. So yes, I’d use a pick.

@jberry6mac-com same question here, just a few months later. I have a Taylor 214-ce, beautiful sound, but no picking allowed there. How are you doing now?
