  • Picture-in-Picture feature of Daily Challenge

Posted by KarlT-Vancouver-WA on June 10, 2023 at 9:37 am

The “Picture-in-Picture” feature is available with the “Learn” mode of the “Daily Challenge”, but not with the “Play” mode. I find the “Picture-in-Picture” feature to be very useful when learning the “Daily Challenge”, and I miss not having that feature also available while using the “Play” mode. Is there a workaround?

I have requested that the “Picture-in-Picture” ability be added to the “Play” mode with TAC Support, and they said they would pass the request on to their technical team. If there is no workaround, and you use the “Picture-in-Picture” feature when it is available, please send in a request to TAC Support to have the feature added to the “Play” mode…the more people request a change, the more likely the change will happen (sqeaky wheel theory).

I think this is a great idea @KarlT-Vancouver-WA ! I’ll send Victoria in Support a request also.

@KarlT-Vancouver-WA Follow up – after speaking with Victoria in Support, PiP is available in both modes. Sometimes you have to maximize your screen to see it, which I had to do in the Play mode. I was able to use them both in the dailies.

That is terrific news. Thank you very much for following up with Victoria, as apparently she didn’t know that information when I contacted her. I will be sure to try to “maximize” my screen the next time I try the “Play” mode to get to the PiP screen. Thank you!

Loraine – Yesterday’s lesson (Chuck Wagon) very easily allows PiP in “Play” mode, even before you maximize the screen. However, I can’t seem to get the PiP to work in “Play” mode for today’s lesson (Mr. B. Goode). If I maximize the screen, there is still no ability to do PiP. Can you describe what you do to see PiP for the “Play” mode of the lesson “Mr. B. Goode”?

My goal here is to have the Tabs pdf on display in full screen mode with the “Play” mode PiP screen displayed “over” the tabs screen.

@KarlT-Vancouver-WA Luckily I checked back in on this topic and saw your question. Just for future reference, when you respond to another person’s comments or want to direct a comment directly to someone, use an ampersand @ and their screen name – see how I began this response using the @ and your name. Type the @name and wait for the drop down with the name and click on the drop down. It will then embed the name in the message. The system will then flag me that I have a comment using the bell looking icon at the top right of the page. You can click on the bell and it lists any comments directed to you, and it will take you directly to the message by clicking on the drop down.

With regard to the PiP for yesterday, I had no trouble bringing it up in the Play mode. I simply maximized the screen and clicked on the video until the tool menus showed up. The picture-in-picture icon was at the bottom right.

How are you accessing the lesson? I was unable to view the PiP on my iPad. But I had no trouble on my laptop and desktop.

I learned something new! I didn’t have a clue what you guys were talking about🤣. I’m so computer inept. But I checked it out and this is great for looking at the tabs and video together. Who knew??😜 Thanks, Kim

@Loraine – thank you very much for the tip about using the “@” sign…I’ve seen it used a lot but never understood why it was used – I just assumed it had something to do with Twitter or Facebook or some other social media app (I don’t “do” social media).

I am using an up-to-date Mac laptop called a “MacBook Air”, with iOS up-to-date at Ventura 13.4 Nothing fancy or unusual. So I am accessing the lessons with a “computer” as opposed to my phone or my tablet.

When I maximize the lesson “Goode and Bad” in “Play” mode (labeled “Scale” mode in this lesson), I can’t seem to do anything to bring up any kind of menu…I have tried various keyboard combinations, clicking on the screen in various ways and in various places, etc., but no menu appears on the screen. Clicking on the “settings” button in the lower right-hand area of the screen is not useful in displaying a PiP option.

I also don’t understand why this problem only seems to occur with some lessons…for instance in today’s lesson “Duck Walk”, while in “Play” mode, simply hovering the mouse pointer icon over the video portion of the screen brings up the PiP “button” to enable that feature if I so desire just as doing so in “Learn” mode always brings up the PiP “button”, regardless of the lesson I am on. Hovering my screen pointer over the “Goode and Bad” play/scale mode screen does not bring up said PiP icon/button.

All in all, at this point it is a bit of a confusing picture, if you’ll excuse the pun.

@karlt-vancouver- That is a conundrum. I’d contact Support and give them a link to this page (go to search bar and highlight and copy address, and then paste in your message to support . Sorry I couldn’t help more.

    @Loraine – interesting addendum

I always use a VPN when I am on the internet. This is likely not culprit, as sometimes the PiP feature is available in “Play” mode, depending on the lesson.

I generally use the Firefox browser. It occurred to me to try the Safari browser, and when I did, the PiP feature WAS available in Full Screen mode when I was in the Play mode, and it worked well in terms of what I was trying to achieve (in Play mode, use PiP while viewing the Tabs screen). So something in my Firefox browser is preventing me from seeing the same PiP screen as you are seeing and as I see using the Safari browser. OK, I can accept that…but what I really don’t understand is why Firefox allows me to use PiP on SOME lessons and not others…you don’t happen to use Apple machines, do you?

@KarlT-Vancouver-WA I hadn’t even thought of the browser issue. I’ve had problems with Safari, but it worked well for you. I find Google to work the best with TAC. Glad you figured that out – PiP away!
