Recording Advice
So I sold something and I have a little to spend to start my recording goal. I used the phone but frankly, it sounded pretty bad (me or the phone? Who knows?… lol). Anyway, I like production and want to learn some technique. Here is what I’m looking at doing after some advice here and some research. I know some folks here are really into this. I have a budget so this is a starting setup which I can upgrade if I ever get to the point of needing that.
The Gear
USB Interface: Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 USB-C Audio Interface (4th Gen) – this seems to be pretty standard with a lot of people and a good place to spend a bit more for future expansion. Having the two mic inputs is important even if I’m not yet using two mics.Vocal Mic: RØDE PodMic Cardioid Dynamic Broadcast Microphone – I know the standard here is the Shure SM7B but I can’t afford that one right now. This seems like a decent alternative.
Guitar: For now, rather than a mic, I have a pickup on my guitar as it is an acoustic electric so I’m going to try that plugged into the USB interface instrument port. I’ve seen some people online with that setup and it seems good enough for now.
Software
Mixcraft 10.6 Pro Studio – seems like a good merging of easy to learn/use and pro features with a not-too-steep learning curve. Also, is not a monthly fee… you buy it outright.
Thanks in advance for the input!
