Recording Video – What do you Use?
Posted by Skyman911 on February 4, 2025 at 2:05 pmI’m curious what others are using to record your videos? Computer, phone? My PC has a camera feature that can record video. The results are pretty poor. No adjustment settings or anything. I can do it on my iPhone, but can’t get the sound I would if I was using a mic. I know there are apps available for this, and I’m wondering what others use? I’m trying to get up the guts to actually post a song.

Hi there – I use the camera on my macbook air and a USB Rode NT1 microphone. I use imovie to record.
It might be easier to just use a phone and the camera would probably be better but this is the way that I started doing it and allows me to edit easily.

Yeah, Apple is certainly better with media. I’ve been enjoying your recordings. You are certainly a skilled player.

I either use an external camera on my desk top and film just into the media center and use a blue Yeti USB microphone, Or I just use my phone. They look and sound good enough for me.

I haven’t worried much about sound quality.
I always use a phone. I’ve been going with the everyday phone but recently I dug out my older Pixel 4a that actually has a nice camera. I put it on a tripod.-

I have only posted one vid but used my iphone. I thought the sound was pretty clear without a mic. It could just be a difference in the type of guitar though… I dunno. If my imac was still working i would probably use that lol… I think an ipad might work if you have one of those!
It took me A LOT to post the one I posted. I can tell you that the community is very nice. I have never seen one negative remark on a video. We are all trying to learn and get better … So, ultimately we are all working on the same goal 🙂

Thanks. My wife has an iPad. Maybe I’ll try that and my phone to see what works best. I’m a decent public speaker, I don’t know why posting a video playing is so daunting.

The red recording light makes everyone forget how to play guitar.

I was doing some research on youtube for iphone mics… They have some decent, cheaper ones you can get through amazon. I can’t remember what they are called.. starts with an L though. lol… At any rate if you look up 5 best iphone mics for recording music… it will come up on youtube. (If you are interested)

I typically just use my iPhone. If I want really good audio I will record it separately with a Zoom recorder or using a Focusrite Audio Interface and then combine with the video using Adobe Premiere.

I use my ipad. It allows me to drag a video into Dropbox. My older macBook can’t run new imovie and only gives me a jpeg when going to dropbox from my video file. The new ipad microphone seem to work well. It does nothing for my voice though. Now to get the nerve to put it out there for others to see and hear.
