Simon T. – How I TAC – 4/12/2021
Hello TAC Family!
I am proud to share “How I TAC”
1.) How many days per week do you play?
I play 7 days a week. This has been very consistent since I joined TAC in November 2020. I take my GS Mini KOA with me when I travel. The only two days I missed when I was in the hospital. Nurses did not let me play with the IV in my arm. I tried…
2.) What time of day do you play?
I play shortly after dinner at around 8:30pm. I believe in 8 hr sleep so I don’t play past 10 pm. On weekends I also play in the afternoon.
3.) Where do you play?
I am lucky enough to have a guitar room, dedicated only to guitar playing and to TAC. An empty nest has some advantages.
4.) What was your guitar life like before having a guitar routine & how has implementing a consistent guitar routine helped you? (if possible name 3 ways).
Initially, 21 years ago I saw my children learn to play music and playing well after a couple of years. I was inspired and I wanted in. Guitar was the obvious choice for me as after research, I found that experts said it was the easiest instrument to learn. I took lessons, but my teacher moved, so I tried to learn on my own on and off for several years. Then I tried Rocksmith, YouTube, but always ended up trying to learn something way out of my league, so I went frustrated a lot. About a year ago after not picking up the guitar for several years, I decided I wanted to make it simple. Just play chords on an acoustic and sing along. Then I purchased an acoustic guitar and I was looking for structure and designed learning plan. I tried Fender play for a while. What caught my attention when I saw Tony’s video ad, that he applied the science behind learning and habit formation to his teaching philosophy. I just finished the “Atomic Habit” book a month before, so I joined TAC right there.
Ever since a have a consistent guitar routine:
– a dedicated time when there is no disturbance (my wife watches a Netflix show while I am having fun with the guitar)
– dedicated room is very inviting and can’t miss it as I walk by every day, it feels great to have “my guitar studio”
– the excitement of anticipating trying the daily challenge is just too powerful. I think I am talking about the next level of habit: addiction
5.) Bonus Question: What is one non-guitar item that is a must have in your guitar routine?
I always have a nice cup herbal tea with no caffeine in my MSU cup.
Thank You for reading.
