  • Sing – The SWR

Posted by Fletch on February 20, 2024 at 11:12 am

I’ve rewritten this one gazillion times in the past few weeks…

It’s inspired by a bestie of mine, younger than me, who is currently battling metastatic breast cancer (aka stage IV). The prognosis isn’t great, but she’s got a bravery inside of her that’s beyond admirable, it’s 100% pure fight and stubborn determination. I really don’t know if I’d be capable of such courage if I were in the same position.

With @stevep and @JulieI … This is ‘Sing’.

    Sing

    Your courage isn’t a roar
It’s a quiet voice saying much more
As the day fades to an end
It whispers ‘tomorrow I’ll try again’

    In those days of disregard
With no song in your heart
It’s a strength to look within
Find a voice dig deep and sing

    And sing

It’s not your hair it’s not your skin
It’s your souls voice hidden within

It cannot kill love or shatter dreams
Nor conquer the spirit with its cursed schemes
It can’t break your will or reduce to your knees
It doesn’t define you the dividing disease

In the storms rage and pain
Learn it’s rhythm dance in the rain
Find your light shine it bright
War the dark with all your might

    In those times endeavor needs
    Share your fears worries freed
Friends give heart beat the way
They comfort tears in cadence play

    And Play

It’s not your hair it’s not your skin
It’s your souls voice hidden within

It cannot kill love or shatter dreams
Nor conquer the spirit with its cursed schemes
It can’t break your will or reduce to your knees
It doesn’t define you the dividing disease

    Tomorrow I’ll try again
    Tomorrow I’ll try again
    And Sing

A wonderful tribute and battle cry for your friend. As a hospice nurse, the lyrics ring true for many dealing with various forms of carcinoma. Check out singer songwriter Cindy Bullens “Between Heaven and Earth” album – a true work of love honoring her daughter’s life.
