  • Singer Songwriter Night

Posted by TMutter on June 23, 2023 at 9:37 am

Kenyon Hall in West Seattle has started an open mic focused on Singer Songwriters. It is a great venue with a listening audience, great sound, and occasionally they will video performances and provide them to the artist. This is the second song I ever wrote and did so while providing Hospice care for my Dad. I wrote it on the night shift while he was sleeping. After he passed I just kept writing. I am still learning to play through mistakes without signaling to the unsuspecting audience that i goofed up, and not roll my eyes !

I never have dreamed that I would someday have the nerve to get up in front of a live audience and play before TAC. Now if I could just finish FBW !

Really quite beautiful @TMutter . You can hear and feel the emotion of losing him, but there is an uplifting sound in the song that almost says it’s okay to go and him saying he was ready and he loved you.

@Loraine Wow – I have never had someone describe the song with so much insight as you have provided. You are spot on to what I was feeling and trying to convey. Thank you so much for listening with so much intention and sharing your feedback – that means a lot to me ! Thanks!

@stevieblues he was a great man. He passed in 2020 and I can honestly say that writing music to express my feelings helped me in so many ways to process grief in a healthy and healing way !

@bugmeist thanks so much for listening and kind feedback. One of the first songs I wrote and seems to strike a chord with a lot of folks who have similar relationships with parents or other important figures in their lives. So far there have been listeners in over 20 countries around the world.

That sounded great and could hear the meaning behind it. Lovely and very inspiring to both write new songs and get out there and perform. Congrats on your achievements and bravery.

@DiscostewLA Music is medicine for the soul ! I dont have words to express how much it has helped me emotionally over the past couple of years to have the TAC lessons, a guitar to play, and this supportive community! Thanks for listening!

Always a joy to hear you play and also fab to see you talking to Tony at the 90 day party. That was such an open and frank conversation about the self-doubt we all have even when those around us think we’re on top of it all. Permeates every part of life it seems! 🤟😎🎸

@Moonhare thanks for listening! Yeah the 90 day conversation – I was not sure if it was an appropriate topic but I wanted to express how timely the 90 day discussion was in terms of getting me back on track. The irony of course is that at the end Tony shared that the 90 day program is, I guess not going away but changing in terms of presentation, which I will miss. However I applaud Tony for making changes that involve hard choices in order to provide the work life / balance he needs with his growing young family.

Great job with the writing and powering through performance issues and emotions. No one cared as the message and overall playing and more importantly musicality were solid

@ScottyMac – thanks – I am getting better at powering through mistakes in live performances. I even made mistakes in lyrics and just made up new ones on the spot 😆

@Greg_Weber Thanks – initially it was hard to get through the song and sometimes I still get ambushed emotionally but for the most part it now just gives me a sense of connectedness to him and feelings of gratitude.

This is fabulous!! Love the upbeat sound as well! I too was a caregiver for my mom in hospice care! Having TAC & a creative outlet w music truly has helped w the grief! I wrote her a song called Today! She was a huge Elvis fan & I often play a soulful version of All Shook Up at open mics. Truly a labor of love our gifts we provided our folks! ❤️‍🩹🔥🙏🏼 Keep strumming!!
