No its not just you. Unfortunately , TAC is very slow. However, once you have a side open you should have no issues watching the videos. So one has to and one can live with that drawback.

It is amazing to me that in 2024 that any website is slow like this one. Just shows a lack of caring on Tony’s part.

It does discourage me from using the site, I will come to the forums and maybe look at one or 2 topics as opposed to all of them. It is frustrating.

I’ve seen slow response too. While I agree that it’s excruciating, in TAC’s defense, there is a tremendous amount of stuff loading.

I was told by TAC support that they are reworking some of the videos, and based on the question I was asking I assume they are reworking them to make them smaller – which should help with the speed. Given that I don’t have problems with any other site loading, it seems the issue is definitely with TAC – either too much data loading or a lack of processing power or internet upload bandwidth on the server side.

The most egregious issue with the website IMO is the lack of a working search function for searching the forums. I’ve asked about that and TAC support responded that they are aware and are working to fix it.

I’m gonna pick it and grin and bear it for now. Trusting they don’t like it any more than I do, and will get it fixed.

Lack of caring on Tony’s part, @moose408 ?

That’s totally unfair. Tony and Levi have built a business that has helped 10s of thousands of people learn guitar and have an acoustic life. As the business grew, they needed to upgrade the site and even the platform.

You think you’re disappointed? Think about how Tony and Levi feel. They made a considered choice after a lot of planning and discussing to go with WordPress. They have the site design they wanted. Yeah! Oh, wait a minute.

Right from the start there were huge problems and “glitches” that meant they were not able to get a number of the things they were promised. Oh, but it’s ok. “We’ll fix it.” Really?

How long has it been and they, Tony and Levi, are still being fed promises of “we’ll fix it”. Do you know how much went into their planning? Do you know how stressed they were about losing the business they created and hoped would carry their families through out the rest of their careers?

I can’t say I understand why WordPress hasn’t been able to make this website run faster and more smoothly. But it’s still the best guitar teaching site available in my opinion because it is based on scientific principles of learning and habit forming. And the site is set up to follow those principles.

Tony is one of the most caring people you will have ever met. Anyone who has met him will tell you that. But hey, too bad everything in life doesn’t go exactly the way Tony would like… because everything in life always goes your way, right?

My point was if they cared about the slow site they would fix it. WordPress is notoriously slow if you don’t know what you are doing and don’t know how to optimize it. Tony could easily hire someone who knows how to optimize WordPress, there are literally thousands of consultants who could fix it in a few weeks. The correct answer but more involved is to move the site off of WordPress to a platform that is more responsive. That is of course more involved and would take some time and the desire to do so.

My point is that the website speed could easily be fixed if there was a desire to fix it, but it doesn’t seem to be a priority, therefore the statement about not caring.

I know that Tony is passionate about guitar and teaching, but it seems his enthusiasm has waned this past year. I don’t begrudge him wanting to spend more time with his family, but the reduced enthusiasm is also an example of not caring anymore. Just maintain the status quo and let the business coast.

I started about the same time last year, and my impression is that there was a lot more new content since Tony quitted Acoustic Tuesday than before. So I would not agree on a lack of caring on that side.

But I do agree that the website issues could be fixed if there was a priority to do so. Maybe that priority comes up or is already up behind the scenes. We will see.

As of now and as already stated above: one can live with the slowness. I use the time it takes to load the daily challenge to tune my guitar 😎

        Ok, @Moose408 ;

You are assuming I don’t understand. I have tried to show you what you are missing.

Tony and Levi JUST moved the site to another platform host. Many people thought they were making a bad choice to pick WordPress. But that was that. Now it’s too late.

Second, they used consultants from the beginning. They paid for this site to be set up. And the people they paid have not come through with their promises from the beginning.

Let me say it again, this hurts Tony and Levi waaaaay more than it could ever hurt any one of us. So, yeah, they care more than you could ever understand… obviously.

Life simply doesn’t always go the way we think. And no, there are not always solutions, period. And even when there are solutions, they can be unrealistic, or simply out of reach.

Bottom line: Stop judging. You don’t have enough information about their situation. You are making a lot of assumptions.

I noticed when I first signed up last week it was slow. Like already mentioned the lessons work fine. There is such a large mass of information and videos in here maybe it takes it a little longer to load up.

Yeah I agree with BluesLife – I think it’s the loading of the videos that takes time, and you wait for everything to get fully loaded because it would be worse to have the video freeze and glitch while you are trying to do a lesson. I think the only thing that might speed up the loading would be paying the server/host thousands more per month to get that snappy response time we all like. I doubt it’s a bug/tuning issue at this point so far from the last release. But who knows – Tony and Levi do care and are no doubt looking at their options for now, and for the next release. (Note the site has been overhauled several times since the beginning.)

I don’t know..the lag, and now the daily counters continuing to reset to zero have me wondering….I have been a member for almost four years, and the lag was always present, but the counters always worked for me until around Christmas time.

For what it’s worth, I was in a lesson just now and it locked up and disconnected me. The screen in the attached pic show what I’ve seen many times on this site and it’s included only as a reference.

It is kind of you guys to be so easy going.

However, I can also empathize with those who get annoyed or frustrated with this type thing. It would help us to know what’s being done to improve the site load time or if it’s not going to be addressed. I can confirm that I use other private – login type – education sites where the slow load and performance issues NEVER happen. There is a reason or reasons for this loading issue and it’s a legitimate complaint point.

Good to know it’s not just me. I’m a software engineer – have been for over 20 years. This is a solvable problem. I just hope the owners are aware of it and are working to improve it.

Yep, New member here, still trying to figure out if this method works for me. Still have 30 or so days to bug out. And if the time-outs continue, I will indeed bug out! Without delving into the emotional side of things….. I did notice that the “Sales” portion of the website is lightening fast, and seems without error. The “sales” portion of the website is “well played.” Once I signed up, and the very first time I tried to access, I received time out, after time out. My “Ten Minutes a day to play” turns into Time-Outs and waiting of 20 minutes by itself. My system is Alienware and quite powerful. My internet is definitely “High Speed.” – Very Disappointed !

Now having ranted the above, I am sympathetic to the core, if I felt that “priority” was focused on improvement. The times I have used “Chat” to ask about the slow or non functioning website has been met with “surprise” by TAC. Like I was the first reporting this. If we are to be a guitar learning family, then let us be family! Be a little transparent of what the future might hold. Let us know that someone out there is working on this.

Honestly folks, come on…..be patient and understand all the possible things that can glitch on online program as large and popular as TAC. The ease with which one can learn guitar from not knowing ANYTHING at all and have FUN while doing it, is reason enough to be patient and absorb what you can when it’s available. Of course they are aware of the lag time, and of course they are working on it—that’s what responsible business owners do. I also am a business owner and some folks that aren’t just don’t quite understand what goes on behind the scenes for making a business run smoothly on the outside. I am thankful I have the opportunity to learn from TAC’s program–and you all should too 🌻

There is zero indication that they are aware of it and are working on it. It has been this way for the 7 months that I’ve been here. It would be great if they WOULD acknowledge it. Perhaps in the weekly email, or perhaps just post here on the forums (although I’ve also never seen Tony or his crew posting here).

I even tried to contact support about the slow site and got zero response.

Its horrible, for the amount of money we pay it should be lightning fast, it seems support is clueless or non exsistant, they will blame you.. This site needs to be moved to a reliable fast host. I will be moving on if they dont as it is painful

This is an old thread from a year ago. There’s a current one right here:

      https://tonypolecastro.com/family-forums/topic/site-speed-update/

Oddly I was not bothered by lagging page loads at the time that one was started last January. It wasn’t fast but acceptable until recently. Tony has assured us that the issue is being worked on.

Actually 2 years ago. Sad that things haven’t improved.

It is not that hard to make a fast web site. I worked on web sites since there were web sites. It sounds like Tony’s web site guys are just incompetent or they are not willing to spend the money on proper hosting.

Yes, 2 years, sometimes I forget that it’s ’26 already @Moose408. Explains why I wasn’t affected by it last year.

It’s such a shame, Tony is serving up “Duck breast à l’orange” with “Vanilla crème brûlée” deserts at Mel’s Rusty Spoon Diner.
