The Dreaded G Chord
Posted by Free-Dan on February 20, 2023 at 7:35 amI never played guitar, but week one went well. Then over the weekend came the G Chord. It took about 5 hours over the weekend to get my fingers to be in the right position. I thought about giving up, but hung in there and today I played the chord perfectly!! A big win for me.

well you just learned the most valuable lesson in your guitar journey ! It will come to you. This roadblock and then victory was the G chord and there will be many more to follow. When you get stuck just remember the journey to your new friend “G” and keep going! you will be glad you did. Congratulations !

Hi @Free-Dan , That is a perfect summery of my whole guitar learning experience. I moved from the feeling that what I was trying to do was impossible to…if I follow instruction, keep my head down, let go of my feelings surrounding the new skill/passage/speed/chord and keep to my commitment of 10 min a day no matter what, then I will continue to progress. This has kept me going and improving and making the impossible possible with the help of easy to follow and clear directions for the last 7 1/2 years. Took me a long time to figure it out so kudos to you for figuring this out early on!

It’s like that at first but eventually it’s second nature without even trying. It’s probably the most important chord you can learn. It’s in about 99% of the songs.
