I am brand new to Guitar and I spent money on lessons just to have what Tony said would happen, happen, in fact it sounded like Tony was sitting in the lessons with us because he basically said what Tony said the usual private guitar lessons would sound like. I cancelled those lessons after a month and joined TAC and in the first 10 minutes I learned more that I did in a month of private lessons. Thank you for making this so affordable and fun. A lot of thought went into the structure of the teaching modules and I am having a blast learning the guitar. Thank you TAC!

Welcome and if you do your “10 minutes” you will reap rich rewards. I assume you are in 30 days to play. And do just that please. Let it be okay and not work. TAC has been a most fulfilling experience for me. After 90 days I splurged for a Lifetime membership. That was almost 1400 playing sessions ago. I don’t get paid for this endorsement. I just testify it works for me.

    Welcome John!

My two cents— Along with joining TAC in the first place, you made a great choice by coming into the Forum.

There’s lots to learn in HERE also- just read thru some recent threads- you may learn a lot just from others’ posts and answers.

Others’ threads and posts are one of my favorite things in TAC- different perspectives, thoughts, ideas, hints, and videos are extremely valuable and helpful- they are GOLD.

Welcome to TAC! I agree that Tony’s lessons have advanced me further and faster than any private one-on-one sessions could. I think it’s probably a good idea for a pure beginner to take a few in-person lessons, but after that it’s far more cost-effective to find the best teachers on the Web to guide you in the journey, as long as you’re reasonably self-motivated.

    Hello @johndingmansricloud-com :

I believe you have found the best site on the web. Welcome.

Tony’s method is different. He doesn’t teach us songs, which is one really common way. And he doesn’t do too much with teaching specific skills, though he does have some skills courses.

But when you reach the Daily Challenge, you may well ask the same question many of us have: “I can’t do this lesson. I can’t even come close, so how is this helping me?”

I can tell you that by giving us something to work on everyday, even if it’s way beyond us at the time, it’s the best and fastest way for us to advance. First, we are becoming regular and consistent in picking up our guitar. Second, every time you try something you can’t do, you are training your fingers and mind to do more. By the time you get back to a lesson you thought you couldn’t ever do, usually less than a year, you will find you can come much closer to doing the lesson and you will realize you have gotten better even though you never worked on that particular lesson again. It’s sometimes seems like magic.

Like I said, I think this is the best site out there. Tony gives us some little thing to work on everyday that challenges us and is fun. That’s all it takes. That’s how a kid would learn.

      Mike-

There are two small lines hidden in your post that hit it right on the head for me-

“so I can figure out to play a certain song myself”— and—

“just by trying, we are engaged. We figure something out every time that can help us make cool sounds”.

      Right on— yet again👍.

Well, it’s cool that you quoted those 2 lines, Mark @the-old-coach , because now they are gone. I got the red screen of death last nite when I first tried to post my comment.

So, like I have advised you, I just copied and pasted my reply to my word processor. When I pasted it in this morning, it was full of the style code which makes it so hard to read. So, I edited it and deleted my comment and started to retype it.

But, I decided I didn’t want to retype the whole thing and just typed in a new comment. But, you must have read the original comment before I posted the edit because neither of those lines are in there. Oh, and I not only deleted the word processor file, I already emptied the Recycle Bin so it’s gone completely. Oh well.

This site is so damn buggy that it’s really discouraging sometimes. Oh well, we still have the best learning site on the web. And we still get to share with each other on the forum. We have something special while the world around us is truly falling apart. It shouldn’t be long now before Jesus shows up and saves us from the encroaching darkness.

        Mike-

Yeah, I see your original post is POOF-gone!

I’ve noticed also now & again all the “weird” symbols and words, etc, that seem to show up whenever something is either italicized or made BOLD– or both. It’s weird….. and frustrating for sure.

And my/our old nemesis—- The Pink Screen of Death—- aaarrrggghhh……

Anyway– they are/were great lines, and maybe someone can get something out of ’em.

Wow that was great that @the-old-coach caught those 2 lines from @N-lightMike . They are inspirational. I do the same thing I write my message in Word first and then copy it over. Then go back and delete out those weird symbols that are added. It’s something to do with how the message is saved. Since our messages/posts are pretty small not like a document. Ok, some of us write a lot more. This happens with “quotes” and ‘semi-colons’ . I just changed the encoding to a txt file. and so far it looks like it copied over fine. But, to me not worth the trouble.

Oh, @Cadgirl , you answered the unasked question. Cool. Yes, that’s why copying and pasting didn’t work very well, it was saved as an Open Office document, and not as a txt file. Thanks. I will do the txt file from now on. Very cool. I really appreciate your reminding me about that little trick.
