Tony’s Acoustic Challenge – The New Way to Learn Guitar Family Forums Small Wins Using 5-day routine challenge to put ‘Lets Boogie’ challenges together.

  • Using 5-day routine challenge to put ‘Lets Boogie’ challenges together.

HUGE WIN for me. I just took the 5 day routine challenge (one of the skill courses), Yesterday, I sat back and reflected on what Tony was talking about on the late day of the challenge called ‘dinner is served’. Using the current week (Let’s Boogie), I started with Friday’s Chord Progression and used 6 strums per chord (just to give me a starting point). Then between each chord I added a run on of notes to get me from one chord to the next (E chord, then ‘run on of notes’ to A chord and so on). After I had that all written down. I swapped out my strums for Mondays Technique (the forward roll). Then to jazz it up a little, where ever I had an A chord to E chord transition, I used the rhythm from Thurs challenge. Ending the whole thing with Tuesdays Guitar lick. It took me over an hour, but I really feel like I have accomplished something. The past year, I really never looked at the daily challenges as anything but finger exercises. NOW, I see them as a way of helping us put something together. I added my cheat sheet if anyone cares to take a look at it.

See, now you need to be careful of doing things like this @Cadgirl because this could make you a “real” guitarist. 🤣

Wow, Denise, this is really awesome. This is the kind of exploration that will grow both your guitar skills and your musical creativity. I’m going to use a copy for myself to play with, but the real benefit of this was your actually working it out.

I still haven’t done much with incorporating the daily lessons into my playing. But this is an excellent way of getting these pieces into small chunks that you can very easily put them into songs you play. I am very impressed to say the least. And I’m definitely not only going to try using what you’ve come up with, I’m going to try coming up with some stuff like this on my own.

What a wonderful example you have set. Thank you so much.

@MikeGaurnier , I never really understood the daily challenges till I took the 5-day routine challenge (which was just last week). After I sat down with all my papers and started putting things together it was like a light blub went off in my head!! It was like doing a puzzle! I was super geeked and couldn’t put my guitar down till I was completed. Go ahead and start with mine and improve it. But, if you go back to the 5-day Routine Challenge and play the ‘dinner is served’ and listen to what Tony is saying you’ll get it. I can’t wait till Friday to do another one. YES! I got this!

    Hi, Denise @Cadgirl

First off, congratulations on your big win! Your idea of incorporating ideas from the lessons into your own arrangement is inspiring.

Also, I was not aware of the 5-day Routine Challenge in the Skills section. Thanks for sharing about it! I’m planning to play through it too.

    Happy guitar playing,

    Cherie 🙂

@Cherie , Thank you, the course must be new. Because it wasn’t there when I started TAC. It’s very informative about what Tony is showing us with the Daily Challenges.

Yes, the 5 Day Routine Challenge is new @Cherie and @Cadgirl . It’s part of the new platform. I feel bad for the people who reacted too quickly to the platform change and bailed because this new platform truly is better as a guitar teaching site. Even us “old timers” need to go through the course Cherie. I have been telling new comers about it and that’s good. But I only started the course myself and never went back after the introduction video. So you’re the big hero on this one Denise. Maybe you can share a post in the “Routine” section of the forum.

Hey, good idea there @MikeGaurnier. Let me write something up. I have something sometime today. There is really a lot of the site and it is a lot better than it was. Some things I miss, but the improvements far out weight what is gone.

“The improvements far outweigh what is gone”. I love it. That’s the spirit. This community won’t die because new people are constantly signing up for Tony’s Acoustic Challenge. Now, the community could be in a constant state of flux if everyone leaves the community after a while, whether 6 months or 2 years or whatever. But it only takes a few people who have been here a while to be the “cheerleaders” of the community for the new comers.

Now, getting back to the 5 Day course, I actually took the Monday lesson. Then I never went back. The whole idea of the course is to build a routine that is consistent. I have been with TAC for over 2 1/2 years and I still haven’t developed a regular routine.

And that brings us back to how we help and inspire each other. This is my weakness and I need to work on it.

        Hi, Mike @MikeGaurnier

Thank you. I expected that the 5 Day Routine Challenge must be new.

I’m going through the course and enjoying it. (Thanks, Denise!)

You mention changes in the site, but since I just joined last April, I’m not noticing major changes in that time, except this new course – 5 Day Routine Challenge 🙂 . . .

Mike, you’ve been with TAC much longer.

What other changes have you noticed?

Thank you for your encouragement, Denise @Cadgirl and Mike! @MikeGaurnier

Wishing you both and everyone, all the best with your guitar journey,

        Cherie 🙂

No, I won’t post. I’m very slow with it. I just wanted to show that the daily challenges are something more than just a finger exercise. I’ve been here a year, and just found this out when I took the 5-day routine challenge.

It will make the daily challenges a bit more interesting. I worked on it over the weekend. Now I just have to make a habit of it and do it every week.
