Perfection it is said, is the enemy of progress. This has been my 90 day challenge in the past and I’ve never felt that it was worth sharing because I was always trying to do better. I’m finally comfortable enough with my flaws that I can admit to being human and share this, flaws n’all. I did 2 takes, the first with naked fingers and then this 2nd take with metal fingerpicks on my index, middle and ring while using a plastic thumb pick that I have trimmed down to make it considerably shorter. I’ll post the naked finger version next and you can easily tell the difference. I prefer this type of aggressive attack on the strings though. SeeYall ♡♡

Nice! I listened to both, this has more projection, both sounded good. I have tried various finger picks, and just can’t get used to them. I grow my nails longer on my picking hand and do the best I can. You finger pick well. Thanks for sharing!

First of all really nice pickin Rick…great technique and very smooth. sounded great, loved it… and youre right about perfection….we’ll never really achieve it, but trying to find it will lead to progress and i guess the harder we try, the better, and closer, we’ll get…hence the journey:) I listened to both your takes and for sure the attack of the picks really brings it. Just the fingers is nice too but more subtle. I grow my nails on my pickin hand for the same reason but requires lots of care and maintanance so have been thinking of trying out some picks. So thanks for the post brother and keep on making great music!

Thanks for commenting and yes it sure is like a baby learning to walk when using fingerpicks. I’ll learn the pieces notes without but then I’ll put them on for a little while every day to keep the brain geometry from getting weak. Once your brain gets past the initial awkward stage they become your friend. The same way Tony approaches learning guitar – “consistently is key”. Avoid frustration, embrace the struggle, believe you can – then you can. ♡♡

Note taken. I will start adding them to my daily routine.. or at least add them when I am practicing fingerpicking.

This was great – I too like the attack using the fingerpicks. It sounds great. You should get a slide going with all that. This sounded really wonderful -reminded me of Justin Johnson

Thanks Stew, I’m familiar with Justin, he’s developed a really smooth technique in many jondras of fingerpicking. I’m definitely heading that direction. Thanks my friend
