Wanted Dead or Alive cover
Posted by DiscostewLA on January 4, 2024 at 4:01 pmOk full transparency I’ve been working on this song for around 6 months. I mess up around 47 times in this take and it’s still probably my best one. Maybe I’ll use this as a milestone song and record another take in 6 months…

That was a great job. It is definitely a great song to play around with and learn. It might take me more than 6 months to get it close to yours but thanks for sharing!

Curious. I really like the look of that guitar. What model Taylor is it?
-
Thanks. It’s a Taylor 714 CE LTD 2019 Sinker Redwood and Indian Rosewood that I picked up used from my local Guitar Center about a year ago. I really love it. It’s heavy as he** but it’s got such a warm and rich voice and the neck just fits my hand perfectly and feels so comfortable to play. My daughter named it ‘River Starsparkle’. I upgraded the tuners from the standard nickel Taylor tuners to Gotoh 510 in the ‘cosmo black’ (which not only look awesome but are also much nicer machines). I think the Gotoh 510s is what they put on the 914 version of this. They were ~$90 from Stewmac and Sam Ash charged me $30 to install them. SO worth it.
They used to have it on Taylor’s site but I can’t find it so here’s a link to a Sweetwater page.

wow, that is really a nice guitar. I will have to keep my eye out to check it out when I am browsing guitar center or other places.

BRAVO/ZULU!!!
WELL DONE!!!
I think you covered any “mistakes” quite well. A better term might be, as I like to think of mine, “muted musical space”. This sounds like the result of six months of time well spent on noodling with your guitar.
-
Haha – love it, ‘muted musical space’. Similar to an ‘unplanned rapid disassembly’.
Thank you!🤘

I like your crosspicking on this and appreciate that you owned up to more than a TAC week in this. It sure is good. I was not familiar with this song until this week but now I am reviewing it regularly. Perhaps in 6 months I’ll be half this good. Enjoyed and thanks.

I just happen to be working on this song this week for the first time. You have really inspired me to keep going on this song. Maybe in 6 months, I’ll see if I can play it as well as you do.

I appreciate that Leslie – rock on! 🤘
I feel like it might take me closer to 6 years to be able to play it cleanly the whole way through – but it’s a journey and I’m happy to be on it. 🙂

Thanks for the positive vibes everyone! Just FYI for others who want to practice this I found a good backing track with the real vocals here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-6gVprjP_I. (count 4 measures from when the first bass note hits and that’s when you start in with the riff to time it out right and start the chords with the singing). Have fun ya’all! 🙂

This was cool. Loved it. Hope someday I can do something like that.

Thanks Joyfinder! I learned some chords from friends in college (many many years ago) and I only picked it back up and have been playing consistently for just over a year now (October was my 1 year TACiversary)
Like Tony says – we’re all on our own unique guitar journey. I’m grateful to be inspired to play guitar every day and I hope the same for you!
