Whammy Whammy No? – Improv Anyway!
Hi All, this improve combines the scales that Tony showed us in today’s Whammy No Whammy Daily Challenge with the open D tuning (DADF#AD) that he was using during the two handed technique in yesterday’s Acoustic Tuesday show. What I didn’t use was the backing track to the improv! Just couldn’t get anything to stick this time around.

Wow, Km! At first i thought it was a little psychedelic. But as you started more strumming, believe it or not , it reminded me of one of my favorite groups of the 70s, Bread. In fact, it reminds me of parts of”I want to make it with you” which was playing when I met one of my great girlfriends back then

Thanks @Mrfredsporty for the feedback and input – and I can definitely understand the connection to Bread. They had a very open, breathing (ha – didn’t plan that corny pun, but will take it 😀) sound and some beautiful songs. I wonder if they used open chord tunings. 🤔
If you haven’t tried an open chord tuning yet I recommend that you definitely explore it. Or, you may want to explore DADGAD tuning (a so called alternate tuning). I find these tunings are super friendly to my guitars and produce a very lush, full sound. A bonus here is that chords and or licks can be made using one or two fingers. Take open / alternate tunings for a spin. You might like them! 😎🎸🎶

Hi Kitman, I loved the sound of the chords you played in this open D improv – really lush. I also loved when you incorporated one of Tony’s scales in there. Sounded great.

That was a fun exploration you did in open D tuning @Kitman ! Some nice mellow chords and some darker sounding single note playing made for a fun listen. The scale run is a very nice lick as well. No whammy there! Thanks for posting 👍
