Where do the benchmark songs reside?
Posted by Markb on August 15, 2025 at 10:08 amI’ve searched everywhere and read the comments and the mystery of where these Benchmark songs reside still exists! I’ve given up on wasting my time. Hopefully this becomes easier to find in the future.

One, Old Man, will start on Monday. They don’t reside any special place. They are included each month with Daily Challenges. So if you save them as a favorite when they come around you can access them anytime. Or if you know of another who has saved them you can go to that profile and find them (same is true of any daily challenges… if you can remember the name of the challenge).:)

I’m sorry you spent so much time looking for them, but you probable learned a few things during your search.
I agree with @albert_d that when they roll around save them as favorites. If you do want copies sooner, there are many fellow players that save their lessons and would have them saved in their favorites. You’re welcome to look at anyone’s favorites. @Moose408 might be gracious enough to share his worksheet with the weeks and their lessons. Then you can see the names and days of the songs. That way you can find look hrough his or my favorites.

I agree. I have looked for the songs associated with each weeks lessons. I know there are 4 benchmark songs that seem to be somewhat irregularly spaced months apart included in a given months lessons. What I have not found is, how can I tell what song a given weeks lessons are associated. I take copious notes from Tony’s lesson onto a printed copy of the TAB. I have learned that he will casually mention the song within those lessons. You have to listen carefully. The titles give a clue as to the song. One that comes to mind is the week with the Beatles. I still do not remember what the song is. I may have it in my written notes.

I believe you may be overthinking the process a little. Tony will sometimes mention a song or songs in his introduction to the challenge and he may invite the audience to think of some songs where they have noticed the same feature he is describing. This doesn’t imply some magical association of each song in the challenge rotation.
What he teaches us day in and day out is to hone your skill the 5 aspects of guitar playing: Technique, Licks, Improv, Rhythm and Chord Progression. Once you have grown sufficiently in these areas it will be much easier for you to learn any song that you want to learn because you have learned the core abilities required.
The teaching isn’t so much song specific, although frequently the lessons are based on certain songs, the goal is for you to grasp how to apply what is being taught to other songs.

I understand, Exactly what I assumed. I do not like to assume, just wanted to make sure I was not missing something (each lesson applications to some particular song). Thanks.
