  1. This is actually the only video explanation I have watched so far in this tune, and I’m glad I did because of how Tony stresses it is a crucial section. Maybe this is an important transitioning skill to learn, and I am certainly spending some time on it. To me, it is much easier to just play this section either up at the entirely up at the 7th position (where the lick is started) or just start it down at the D in the 3rd fret of the B string. There is more time to get back down the neck in either of those scenarios (since you’re making the move on the end of a half note) rather than jumping From the seventh fret down to the fourth fret in the middle of a pair of eighth notes), but i suppose there’s something to be said for doing it the hard way. The timbre jump in the first of these easier options is a little bit jarring, at least on my box. I just think it’s going to be real tough to get this section up to “bluegrass tempo” playing it the way we’re doing it here. If I work at it for a while, I will probably get it and be a better player as a result. After all, these lessons are not so much about quickly learning to play the song at tempo as they are about building skills to make you sound better down the road.
