  1. I really struggles with this one. My fingers are really short and I struggled to get a clean fret on the B string with my ring finger. I kept trying for over 2 hours and I finally got frustrated. I then used my middle, ring, and pinky to fret the D,G,and B and stretched my index to fret the A. I got good fretted notes using this method. Is that ok?

  2. why cant I just bar the second fret and make the A shape with my other fingers?! Not as painful!! Sometimes I think you forget that women generally have smaller hands and fingers!

  3. Fun experimenting with this , especially when using some pentatomic scales between the B chord and an E chord shape. Shows what can be done when integrating elements of several different lessons together. Always learning something new beyond the basics of a lesson !!!

    1. I’ll try a pentatonic break, this week’s lessons exhaust me. I can barely practice a total of 10 minutes together on the first three lessons.
      Did get some more clarity of notes when I really followed Tony’s direction to press down on each note and ease up staccato style–it gives the forefinger and fourth finger a rest that otherwise is painful.

      Also used a tip from someone who suggested hold raising the neck end higher can give more leverage.

      I keep coming back to these exercises even though in regular practice I will probably revert to the accommodation I make : for barred E’s using all fingers for the high 5 and the thumb for the low E.
      Just playing the top four notes for the barred A’s and sometimes the bass E string. A cut to the bone years ago between my forefinger and middle still causes pain when I stretch too much. But how many fingers did Django Rheinhart have?

  4. PRACTICING Staccato on a Barre Chord certainly tests your finger pressure stamina! And, … Repetition is the Mother of All Skill!

  5. Yikes! I’ll have to keep working at that one. I broke my left elbow a few years back and apparently still don’t have much strength in my ring finger.

    1. I found the same thing. The hardest part for me was stretching the ring finger while holding down pressure. The pinky is a lot easier, and I get good clean sounds at speed.
