You have to check out this product called pickersgrip.com

Long story short for $10 you get this little jar with a piece of something similar to glycerin soap inside. You rub it on your pick and it makes your pick just barely tacky and what a world of difference it makes.

I was having the exact same problems you describe until I found this product on a random YouTube video being reviewed by the Tony himself

I didn’t know this was a John Prine song either. I only recently became aware of it through the Johnny Cash version

I would buy a cheap guitar because plywood is less affected than a solid wood guitar. Buy a yahama fg800 and even that should last a few years and get your $200 out if it.

We used to sing this song in kindergarten.

I had no idea it was a real song until recently. Or the song you are my sunshine. Along the same lines I had no idea half the Hank Williams songs were real songs (eg,hey good looking wutcha got cooking?)because the first time I heard them were in bugs bunny cartoons and he sings them about as ridiculous as bugs bunny doesl

I want to talk about the things that I hate about Tony. I hate how he will never give a negative product review no matter what lol. He’s just always so positive!

It really depends on what other chords are in the song that you will need to switch to or from. The three finger is good for songs in the key of C with a C and F chord being easy to transition to. The ring and middle finger keep the same formation and just go up or down a string. This is common in folk songs.

If you play in the key of D you will probably need to switch to or from a D. In this case the four finger G is more convenient because you leave your ring finger planted as an anchor finger when switching between D and G. This is common in bluegrass

If your good and fast enough you can really switch from any but the point is why make it harder than it needs to be if there is a more convenient option.

In summary, which ever version makes it easier to switch to the next chord depending on exactly what chord that next one is

I use the app Ultimate Guitar: chords and tabs. Its free and has multiple versions of every song i ever heard of. If you pay to subscribe it unlocks autoscroll which is a huge help. I cast it from my phone to my tv so i can see it. Thats why in my videos i look like im looking off into the distance over the camera sometimes. Another cool thing about it is most of the songs have short user submitted clips so you can see how others attempted to play a song solo as most songs are usually originally recorded with a band

Most people favorite the ones they like but for the most part just erase them from their brain to make space for the next one. They are mostly just meant to be exercises.

Songs you are really into are easier to remember because its feels like more fun than work. Eventually playing songs is no longer memory because you have done it so many times that your fingers just know the dance automatically . I know so many riffs that i can automatically play but would draw a blank if you took away my guitar asked me to write them down as tab notation. I would need to slowly walk myself through them.

Everything hard now will be less hard later.

I don’t know if it’s been said yet but the daily challenges seem to repeat every year. It’s kind of interesting to remember not being able to play any of them fluently last year and then this time around be able to do it.

the g run that I did that started at the high g down to the low g was actually from a lesson on this site. I don’t remember if it was a daily or a skills challenge.

the one from the low e to the middle g was an old Earl Scruggs standard G run. I tend to lean on bluesgrass by accident a lot.

my goto warm up is the Eminor scale with added blues flats (E minor is relative minor of G major which means you just turn the dial back one and start the scale on open E instead of G) which goes E- 0,3 A 0,1,2 D- 0-2 G- 0, 2,3 B- 0,3 e- 0,3 which has a really cool bluesy tone because your ear notices that there seems to be too many notes in the scale but still sound good
