| Why I'm Here |
I’m from Vancouver, Canada. I picked up the guitar and started playing November 2016.
I spent a couple of years studying classical piano when I was much younger, so I know a little basic music theory, can read standard notation – but I never went far with that. I was always big into music, but mostly rock/pop when I was younger. Over time, I’ve come to love blues and jazz as well, and appreciate classical, but at the time classical never really motivated me to work hard, and I never thought about applying piano to other types of music.

I love music. Guitar is a simpler, possibly more versatile, and much more portable instrument than a piano. I've wanted to be able to play/create/share music for many years and have regretted not pursuing my studies further when I was younger. Around 2016, something snapped in me and I just realized I can spend my life wishing I could do something, or I could actually apply myself, learn it, and do it.
I took lessons for about a year, and have continued studying on my own since then. The journey has been extremely rewarding for me. It is a test of my patience, a test of my determination, a test of my own artistic abilities. It is also a rebuke to this general idea that as adults we can't continue to evolve or take up significant new challenges, or change our lives. I definitely have a lot more things that take up time in my life nowadays between work, sport, relationship search (not to mention more modest attempts to restart piano a bit, and learn to sing!) – but I have decided that guitar is going to be a priority for me, and have been dedicating regular time to improvement.
I'm realistic about how long it may take me to actually get decent, but I just focus on improvement: day by day, week by week, and hoping the rest will take care of itself.
