@the-old-coach Thanks for the encouraging words. I think making a conscious effort to relax, especially the fretting hand, is super important. Also as you learn remember slow and clean trumps fast and messy. Anyway, keep at it coach and the rewards will be manifest.

@jumpinjeff Thanks for the encouragement. I sincerely hope I can sustain the (almost) tension free playing. It sort of took me by surprise when I realized how relaxed I was. I have intentionally tried to loosen my ‘death grip’ on the fretboard and I have a feeling that helps a lot. Still have to work on relaxing more with barre chords though but I feel that is coming along as well.

It’s been quite the journey for me as I started it at age 69. there were all sorts of things that could have kept me from playing (almost) everyday like arthritic fingers, etc. but things got easier the more i kept at it. If you’re just starting I just say that the rewards (small wins) build up and the next thing you know you’re getting pretty comfy with a guitar in your hand. Keep on keepin’ on!
