Hey Jen from Texas – I can related to everything you are saying. I’ve been playing about 5.5 years now (after a 34 year layoff – was not any good back then). Some days my fingers flow seamlessly and others not so much. No idea why.
I still get very nervous if I am playing in front of someone and a song I normally nail goes haywire or I suddenly can’t remember some of it (which shocks me).
About 2 years ago, I hooked up with a local Acoustic Guitar meetup group that gets together every 2 weeks. For the first year, I was totally intimidated as many of them had been playing since teen years and were very good. The group was and still is very welcoming, so that helped. Finally, I just relaxed when I realized that no one there gave a crap how good you were – it was all about getting together, playing and having some fun (Oh, I should mention that you are expected to sing as well). At the end of the day this really helped me with playing in front of others.
When it is nice out, I play on the front porch. At first when folks walked by, I would lay low and stop playing. Now, I welcome when folks walk by as it helps build my confidence. Many times, I don’t even notice when someone walks by now.
Anyhow, keep at it and it well get better for you.
Enjoy,
Chuck

Wow! That is really good for someone who is just starting out. Clean chords and solid transitions.
Short fingers? Your fingers look more than fine to me. I will trade you mine for y

@Ron-A there are several out there that are decent as well as some that I find to be less than optimal.
My two favorites are:
Snark SST-1 – Easy to use and rechargeable via USB. About $25 on Amazon
D’Addario Eclipse – Nice color display that is easy to see and use. Uses a battery. About $15 on Amazon

Slow and accurate. Nice job. One of my favorites.

Wow! Real nice job. Smooth playing with no hiccups. Cool!

Congrats @drbrow. I am right there with you and will hit the 5 year mark on 20 May. I also became a TAC lifer after year 1 and agree with Lorraine’s suggestion.
Like you, I also signed on with another instruction site that is kind of Blues oriented and very good, but still beyond my current ability and I can’t keep up with it – so to avoid frustration, I don’t try to keep up, but rather focus on those lessons that appeal to me.
Like you, I still log onto TAC everyday and try and hit the exercise. I still get frustrated with my limitations, but just keep at. See slow improvements, but man it takes time. Without TAC I don’t think I would really be anywhere.
Enjoy

Hey there Rick, That is pretty darn good. Great picking. Must have taken a long time to get this down. You inspired me so much, that I might add this one to my always evolving list of things to learn, but might have to target it for next year as I am not at your level yet. The key word here being “yet”.
Thanks for posting.

Real nice job, especially really good for the first time. This tune is one of my absolute favorites and I am constantly giving it a shot. Due to life changing events of the last year, the lyrics now unfortunately ring all too true for me, giving the song even more feeling.
Old Neil himself never really plays it the same every time and so there is a lot of room for adding or subtracting a thing here and there. I just run with what I like wrt.
Hey if my eyes don’t deceive me, I believe that is a Martin SC-13E in your hands. Nice guitar.

Nice job. I love playing this one and really get at it sometimes – like your more gentle approach as well

I don’t think you ever stop looking at the strings/frets at least at
some level. A quick glance every now and then I find helpful to keep me
on track. Watched an old video of Dylan the other day playing Blowing
in the Wind, a relatively simple song and even he sneaks in a glance
every now and then (: -
Most of us experience the exact opposite of what you describe wrt tuning up or down, but as you are in Florida, my guess is you have the A/C cranking in the summer resulting in a less humid environment and then with the A/C off in the winter, the humidity likely goes up resulting in the wood expanding a bit and you then having to tune down.

TMutter, Very cool indeed. I also started volunteering to teach with G4V about 2 years ago. Sometimes, I am not sure who benefits more, them or me!
I totally agree with your approach. The Lesson lay down from some of the G4V leads is just too much for most, so I use it as a guide and then just freelance as each one of these Vets is different and on a different journey.
I am affiliated with the Lakewood NJ Chapter.
Keep it going!!!

Thanks for the tip, Lorraine.
I took your advice and reached out to Victoria and she got right back to me with “Those have not been released at this time, but may at some point going forward..”
So, we will see what the future brings.
