The motto is progress over perfection. Just keep showing up and do the best you can for at least 10 mins each day.
Some days I might only get 1 measure, some days not even that. But over time you will see progress and get a little further.
Guitar is really hard, you are going to suck, it’s ok to suck, don’t get frustrated that you can’t do something, that is normal.
You mentioned it was like learning Chinese which is an apt metaphor. You are learning a new language and just like you would not expect to learn Chinese in a week, guitar is going to be the same. Small baby steps.

I spent some time this week organizing my songs and notes. They were scattered in multiple locations (local hard drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, paper notes from in-person lessons, SongBookPro). I’m working on getting them all into SongBookPro as it can control the BeatBuddy and Helix LT via midi, so when I select a song in SongBookPro, everything else gets changed to match the song. A real time saver.
Still have a long way to go with the TAC TABs/notes.

I spent several years here on TAC working diligently on the daily techniques and at the end of it all if someone asked me to play a song I couldn’t play a single one.
I have since changed my practice routine and each day will work one or two songs after working on techniques. I rotate through 3-4 songs throughout the week. 2 will be fairly easy songs, 1 will be intermediate and 1 will be a song that may take me months to get.
My goal in learning songs is to be able to play them from memory, while singing, as if I were performing them.
Every Sunday I play through every song I have “performance” ready. This keeps them fresh and makes sure I don’t forget them. Occasionally if I’m have difficulty with one of these songs it will go back into the weekly practice rotation for a week or two.
For the past year my struggle has been singing along with the songs so I started voice lessons in January and learned to change the key to match my voice which has significantly helped with my songs, although sometimes it is hard to forget and unlearn the original key and learn the song in the new key.

TAC works with electric, I often switch up between my acoustic and electric for the daily challenges.
That being said I do use a course called Beginner Guitar Academy that is more focused on the electric guitar. It is a HIGHLY structured course and I have found it to be a great complement to TAC. I’ve been with TAC for 2.75 years and Beginner Guitar Academy for 2.5 years and both have made me a better guitar player.

Here is a link to the spreadsheet with all of the daily challenges for the past couple years. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/10CGaT6CrZ783_tw-burdSd7W_KWiliiei03_h0T5dgA/edit?usp=sharing

Tony stopped having those in the Fall of 2023

Welcome Joe. I just went through the lesson and the tab seems to match what Tony is playing and demonstrating. Here is a link to the tab https://tonypolecastro.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/The-Blues-Bassline-30D2P.pdf
What part do you think is in error?
Since you are new are you sure you are reading the tab correctly. I know when I started the 30-days to play I was constantly flipping the tab, thinking the bottom of the tab was the bottom high E string on the guitar instead of the thickest E string at the top of the fretboard.

The motto here at TAC is progress over perfection.
In the beginning many of the challenges are going to be well challenging. You are not expected to perfect them before moving on. You are expected to try them for 10 mins, do the best you can and then move on. The first time through you might only be able to do the first line or perhaps on the first measure. That’s OK. The challenges come around again and the next time you will get a little further. I’m on 9th time through on the Ain’t no Sunshine benchmark and this was the first time I could get through the whole thing, although still not perfect. The first time through I could only do the first line.
It goes against our nature to move in before perfecting the exercise but that it how it is designed. And it gets results if you trust the system.

I hit the strings with my first knuckle, not my nails. I think of it like knocking on a door. Same hand shape and hit.

Thanks.
I’ve been trying to up my recording game. It has gotten a lot better but still have more to learn/do.

I’ve been working on 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover for 6 months now. I have the guitar part mostly down, it’s the singing that is getting me. Paul’s range is greater than mine. 🙂
He’s touring again this summer. I saw him last year and it was great.

Your phone will do a good job of recording you playing. That’s what I did for several years.
I’ve now gone down the rabbit hole of adding microphones, audio interfaces, etc. but that I do it more because I find it fun, than a necessity.

Ideally start on a Monday. But there is no need to go back and work on ones you have already done. In the beginning you are not expected to complete many of the Daily Challenges. Spend 10+ mins on it, mark it complete, and then move on to the next challenge the next day. Progress over perfection is the motto.
The Daily Challenges repeat, so the first time through you might only be able to do the first line or maybe only the first measure. The next time through you will get further, by the 3rd or 4th time you will have spent enough time playing guitar that you can probably get through the entire challenge.
So try your best but don’t try to perfect it, it will come around again.
