  • I’m right there with you, and I’ve been dabbling in guitar much longer than you. I used to practice but never thought of myself as a player. That changed after I heard Tony say that once you pick up the guitar and start playing you ARE a guitar player. That re-frame helped my guitar work be inspirational and aspirational. I started keeping a pick in my pocket at all times as a reminder.

Now, you’re not at your goal today, but can you say you’re better than you were 6 months ago? If yes, even a little, then you’re progressing and that’s better than those who keep their guitar in a case under the bed. Skill can ebb and flow as well. You may have awesome growth in one 30-day period, then plateau for a while. That’s OK.

I put the sock on my fretting hand. Didn’t get great tone, but my fretboard stays clean! 😛

Nice! Good choice. A good lesson for all newer guitar players (myself included) to play multiple guitars over a period of time before pulling the trigger on such an important purchase. Early on, I bought an Epiphone ‘inspired’ by 1964 Texan reissue. Just not a good fit. Epiphone can make great guitars, but that wasn’t right for me. Ended up with a Taylor 114 CE and, more recently, a Martin 00015M. Love them both.

A good homemade case humidifier can be made using wet floral foam and a used pill bottle. The floral foam is the stuff you’ve seen used in flower arrangements and can be purchased in the hobby area Walmart, etc. I’d bought a couple of sound hole humidifiers and noticed they used this same material. There is also dry floral foam. That foam will not absorb water.

Just drill holes around the sides, top, and bottom of the pill bottle. Then push the bottle top onto the foam just enough to leave a mark. A knife can then be used to carve out a piece of foam that will fit in the bottle.

If you have one of those sound hole humidifiers, you’ll see there’s not much foam material. The pill bottle humidifier will hold much more water and has a larger surface area, so it will release moisture far longer.

I believe they can be redeemed for TAC merch. At least I saw that on a forum post from a member (not TAC staff), so may just be rumor.
