@SciencePete – while I am a fairly novice picker myself I would suspect to anchor or not anchor is a matter of personal preference. Personally, I like to know where my thumb is related to the bass E string.

Have you watched Tony’s “Fingerpicking Jumpstart” skill course yet? That helped to guide me on the basics.

Hopefully someone more experienced will provide you with a definitive answer.

I find fingerpicking more to my liking than strumming. Enjoy it!

Thank you @Marty69 – for me it’s a big deal. My son-in-law notices a marked difference in my playing from last year to now. I still have a long way to go to keep up with him as he has been a dedicated guitarist since age 12 (performed professionally in his 20’s) and just had his 36th birthday. He has accumulated many drool-worthy guitars over the years.

For a birthday gift I got him Eric Clapton’s “Six-String Stories” book detailing the guitars “Slow Hand” has had in his guitar journey. The book is exquisite (at least in the mind of guitar geeks).

If you plan to stick around for the long haul in TAC, the lifetime membership option is well worth considering. If you currently have the annual membership with auto-renewal you would need to select the lifetime option prior to the time of renewal. Here’s the cool part, TAC (if you contact Victoria at TAC Support after you pay for it) will adjust your initial payment to reduce the one-time life membership payment. Huge win, win!
