I’m a big fan of the slate digital mic. I have a couple of the smaller ones to, but the large condenser is great. Even without the mic emulations, I find it to be very transparent. Most of the color I had on my tracks in the zoom show is coming from mic preamp emulations, as opposed to the to the VMS, as the mix rack component for the VMS system doesn’t work in a live setting. Also, after trying all the Mike emulations, I was surprised at which Mike I thought sounded best with my vocal. I never would’ve picked that 1 on a million years, so it’s a good way to learn about which mics work for you, and great to have a whole bunch of choices for others that might come over to record in your studio.

So much great advice here in this thread, above all else, I would suggest learning a song that includes a couple hammer-ons (and maybe even pulls offs) and practicing it often (maybe a few minutes at the end of each practice session). And I think over time, you’ll find that the hammer-ons will start to come pretty naturally as the habit forms, good luck!!!!
