Why I'm Here

I am a 63 year old geriatrician on early retirement. At the age of 18 , studying medicine at the University of Amsterdam, I bought my first guitar, a very sturdy Eko. I couldn’t afford a teacher at that time, and good instruction books on playing the guitar were more seldom than UFO-sightings in those days. So I tried to pick it up from some guitar playing co-students. That partially worked, but I found it an easy instrument to play lousy, but a difficult instrument to play well. When one of my fellow students was putting together a band, I was asked if I would consider to play the bass. My answer was yes, eager as I was to play on stage. And so my career as a bass playing doctor took off. Combining my love for playing music with the demands of my profession hasn’t always been easy, but there have been a few years that I played in three groups at the same time. That’s how I loved to play. But there was only just enough room for the bass, while my guitar gently wept. But now I have lots of time at my disposal, and my first love is knocking at the case-lid. And better still : now I can afford a teacher. So, I have a lot of playing skill on the bass, and I want to get the same skill on my guitar, but what is most important : having fun learning the skill!
