Congratulations on your growth in just a year of playing! That is quite remarkable. I’m at about 20 months and haven’t mastered any full songs, can’t maintain smooth playing for more than a fraction of a minute in the best of circumstances.
Performance anxiety happens to most people. Only a small percentage of mankind doesn’t have this experience. Many have overcome the fear, but still say they have to do it over and over, night after night.
My playing degrades about 30% just by turning the camera on, which is very foolish since nobody will see the video unless I want them to.
Jim Morrison (The Doors) was so nervous when they started performing he would not face the audience. Donald Fagen (Steely Dan) was so averse to performing that they didn’t tour for many years and became primarily a studio band, cherry-picking the best session musicians in the world to contribute to his work.
I’ve been trying to overcome my anxiety by just bringing out the guitar and noodling while sitting next to my wife on the couch and it does seem to have gotten slightly better. Lastly I want to say that you at barely 50 years if age, are young! I started at 64 but I still plan to get proficient enough to perform at church and around the campfire.

I sure hope you get back to playing before too long, your audience must be missing you!

That’s pretty! It has a soothing quality, like a lullaby. 🙂

Oh my @TMutter ! That’s terrible news, sure glad it wasn’t worse like you said! May you be healed quickly, my friend.

I was just looking at your imaging graphic with your name up there and it made me think of my wife’s childhood guinea pig that they named after it’s coloring. It had white and peanut butter shades so they called it “Peanut Butter Fluffernutter”. If you added your name to it, it could really ring! lol!

About the “No Bull Music Theory for Guitarists”. Do you think a Kindle version would be helpful? I have a nice reader (Kindle Scribe). I know real printed books are always preferable as resources, but $26.99 vs $48 for paperback or $58 for spiral-bound.
On second thought, I don’t even know which volume to get, I think this is pricing for the full series (3 volumes), might be overload for me.
Ugh…on third thought there are a lot more books than I thought, I just ordered 2 of them, hope they’re helpful:
No Bull Music Theory for Guitarists: Master the Essential Knowledge all Guitarists Need to Know (with downloadable audio lessons)
Music Theory for Guitarists, Volume 3: Guitar Theory and Fretboard Concepts to Help Intermediate to Advanced Players Master Scales, Modes and Chord Progressions

I’ve been playing since March ’24 and in TAC for about 16 months. I still have to move my hand a bit to reach on some of these scales. My reach has improved but it’s a process that will take years, there isn’t an immediate workaround. For some exercises, other than scales where you really have to do them in the right key, you can use a capo to move the activity up the neck where the fret spacing is more friendly.
Like all things here in TAC, just do the best you can and move on. Next time it will be slightly better, sometimes you will see rapid improvement that will surprise you.

and the Vidami pedal:

You’ll get there, show up regularly and just don’t give up! In the beginning I immediately put the guitar down when I heard someone approaching. But now I’ve picked it up in front of family members a number of times and I still couldn’t play a lick but was feeling more at ease. I’m hoping my son in law can work with me a bit. He showed me a few things last week that were really helpful and I started practicing them with him in the room. He’s just a really busy dude, music director and pastor at our church with 3 small children.

Thanks for your response, Coach! Insightful as always!
I ordered a couple of the books in Kindle form and have started reading the first one. My Kindle allows me to add notes, I have the Scribe version. But I agree, real paper is better.I have studied the circle of fifths, but it’s such a huge topic, it’s something I’ll be revisiting for years to come. At the time of reading I was able to absorb about 10%, because even grasping the concepts doesn’t mean you have internalized it. I know that it has significance on multiple levels, but it’s not that helpful if you don’t have a good command of intervals yet.

MemberOctober 26, 2025 at 3:11 pm in reply to: For Valentines Day – Original “You Got One”That’s right, almost all music by now is “inspired”! There are only so many ways to arrange 12 notes! But when I started listening to this bit, it sounded familiar right away!
So many great artists in the past “borrowed” from classical composers and other periods during the past century (20th)

@Philb that’s why it’s helpful to peruse or at least browse the forums, I wish more members would! 🙂
I’ve found a lot of helpful tidbits, even lessons in there. -
Thanks Kristin! Switching topics, what are your thoughts about German drummer Anika Nilles joining Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson on tour to play Rush’s catalog? It’s a pretty amazing turn of events. Rush fans are ecstatic.
I wouldn’t go to the show myself, concert tickets are too crazy expensive and for me the guys are already so old. Same reason I wouldn’t attend the Rolling Stones or another band from that era. Although my daughter recently went to see Paul McCartney and said it was a terrific show. But she also ponied up for Taylor Swift. Kids nowadays have no experience attending a show for around $10 back in the day.
Some artists have long past their prime, particularly vocally, and shouldn’t be performing anymore. David Lee Roth, you might be one of them.

I am not sure what the number might be that would induce TAC to engage their IT Team. It’s not in house, they are supported by a 3rd party so things of this nature involve a cost, so it has to be worth it for them. I have brought this pedal issue and some other issues to Support but nothing was done. Here is an example from when I reached out due to not being able to post more than once under a Daily Challenge. It was deemed not significant enough:
