I’m a new player myself but I started with the pick as that was recommended to me. I think it’s helpful to learn using picks, but I also appreciate and enjoy finger picking. Mark Knopfler is perhaps the most famous guitarist to have completely abandoned using the pick, but he also has used picks extensively in his career. I like that Tony teaches us both styles but it’s understood that you may develop a preference for one of them.

That was 2 weeks ago. It will come back around in February.

Common problem, I too have this issue, on some of the scales I just have to move my hand a little to make the reach and I am approaching 20 months since starting to play and over 15 months in the TAC program at 95% (which means I am 5% short of playing 365 days a year). Most days I play 3-5 sessions, I am sure that I average 3 daily which makes up for those few occasions where I only play 1 or 0 times.

Yes, this is a great system @jefbla1997gmail-com . You can jump in anywhere in the year and join the group of players. It’s a little hard to connect, but the chat sessions under the challenges are quite lively.

What’s been posted above is all very true. I would only add that you should give it your best, try when possible to not quit as soon as you hit a wall. Those seemingly impossible stumbling blocks are your biggest potential for growth. Spend an extra minute or two on the thing that is very difficult for you, often times a breakthrough will follow in due time.

Unfortunately, no. There is a week featuring a syncopated rhythm, perhaps another member can chime in which challenge that is, but no Bob Marley or anything of that sort.

Yes, but I had a part time job up until June this year. Since moving I have not been working.

And @Moose408 has a googlesheet that provides links to all the challenges for the past couple of years.

Well said @SCGobbler ! TAC is a wonderfully designed program, just show up as often as you can and always play at least for 10 minutes! If you still have time after that and it’s still fun, keep going! Always focus on having fun, that’s why we’re here! Lean on the TAC community to get your questions answered!

Thanks for your input on this. I have held off buying FW feeling I wanted to be a mechanically more sound player and like you say, not be struggling to transition between chords. I also thought it might be a distraction at this point in my journey, like I would have to divide my available guitar time between Challenges and FW. I didn’t see the point in doing this, even though it’s a one time purchase and good forever. I have been getting better mechanically speaking, might pull the lever for FW the next time it goes on special if at that time I believe I am technically a sound enough player. I have been getting some pointers from my son in law, who has a masters degree in music and leads the music team at our church. Hoping to turn that into a regular occurrence, i.e.: private guitar lessons.

Well I say that @Moose408 because compared to the forums they are “lively”. On Challenge days there could be 100 – 150 posts, give or take. Many are just “how easy or difficult they found the challenge” but many others give advise or some insight. The problem is the posts roll down as more people post and so much of it goes unviewed. I’ll scroll down a few dozen posts and occasionally to the very beginning, but I’m not going to come back at midnight and do this, nor will I scroll down every day.

These posts are essentially gone each week never to be seen again. The volume of posts in the forums is much, much lower: probably between 5 and 10 daily. It’s irksome to me how low participation is, only a few people post and among those most only seem to check in once or twice a week (if that often). The vast majority of people who post under the challenges, never venture into the forums. Anything they contribute will be invisible within a week, kind of sad.
