What @gibsonjlpacbell-net says. To report a tech issue click to the TAC Home page and at bottom right there is a square button to initiate a chat. Usually Victoria replies within minutes.

    @lecassandra congrats on your consistency!

FYI: TAC tracks your activity on the home page (sort of!). If you click on a new daily challenge, or click to the home page it will definitely register. I’ve lost some streaks (as recorded by TAC) because I must have failed to click on one of these. Of course I know that I played every day (as you do, you’re not sure if it’s 13 or 14 in a row).

@Loraine when you say push down on your elbow, what does this really mean? I can lower my shoulders as much as possible but once it’s all the down, how much more pushing is possible? Now I can raise the guitar neck also so the elbow continues to descend relative to my fretting hand.

What I am finding is that I literally am pushing the left elbow into my ribs in order to be able to lay my index finder on it’s side (the bony part, not the fleshy part). Doing this there is a limit to how far you can lay down #1 because you start to have muting problems with #2 and #3 because now you are fretting on the side of those fingers (no longer with the tips).

There always seems to be a trade off between getting good, clean sound from the notes F (#1), C (#1), A (#2) and F (#3).

    I hope all this isn’t confusing you @stpotter329gmail-com .

I assume you are talking about the F-mini where you barre the high E and B strings. You are not alone my friend, this chord is extremely difficult to play. I attempt regularly to play it but only rarely do all strings ring cleanly. It comes down to a balancing act for me, getting the pressure on the 2 lowest strings just right while not muting any other strings at the same time.

For the challenges I will often cheat and focus on fretting the B and not worry about the high E at all while avoiding it while strumming it.

@albert_d I’m wondering what those obstacles (overhead) you have in recording songs truly are?

Here is the setup that I have that has made it much simpler for me: I use an old phone rather than than the one I actually have in service with my cell provider. It’s a Google Pixel so it has a decent camera even though it’s about 5 years old.

I can just keep that phone in my desk, I’ve got a tripod standing next to me as well where I can just pop it in when I want to record myself. I have it connected to my home network and logged into my google account. I’ve set up google photos to automatically upload all my photos and videos so that I can access them from any device. I can transfer the video to YouTube directly from the old phone immediately after recording. But also if I wait a bit everything will sync and I can make that transfer from my laptop.

Haha! Thanks for this post @albert_d !

A little disappointed we aren’t going to hear your 18 minute version of Alice’s Restaurant posted here!
Congrats on all your growth and achievements!

  • Was it not enjoyable when you were still playing 6 weeks ago? I would just wonder what caused you stop. It seems like you bonded with some guitar players in the Philippines and you want to be able to play with them. That’s a big goal, it’s probably going to take longer than 90 days (most likely a multiple of that number)! Have you done your goal setting exercise that Tony recently went through? You should have some shorter term goals that you can reasonably achieve in 90 days. Then break those down into 30 day goals. I recommend going through the Fab Five week (March 24th – March 28th). Never mind the challenges, but fast forward toward the end of each lesson and go through the goal setting, the last 2 or 3 minutes of each day. Tony explains how to set meaningful, measurable goals. 90 days later you will repeat this!

I know when I started playing with other programs I eventually stopped because I didn’t know how to improve the things that they had me work on, I was hitting a wall and just stopped. But since I’ve been in TAC (9 months now) that has never been an issue. I know that I just have to do today’s challenge and then whatever I feel like doing. I focus on my 90 day goal for a few minutes as well. It’s always fun, that’s the important part- gotta keep it fun!

Welcome to the club! Everyone of us has struggled to play the C (and the G, and the D and the……)

Your profile shows that you are new to TAC. How long have you been playing?

Are your fingernails clipped as short as possible? Have you developed some calluses on your finger tips?

C Chord is very hard, it is definitely not beginner friendly. It probably took me about 6 or 7 months before I could play it cleanly and that was with a lot of time (maybe a second) placing my fingers right. What Tony says in this weeks challenge about getting a good arch on your fingers by getting your palm far under the neck is one of the best tips I can think of.

All of the above are important factors but it’s simply going to take some time to get the open C major chord down. It’s been about a year since I bought my electric guitar and started to learn chords. In July last year I joined TAC. Best choice ever! Yet I still will flub the C chord fairly often while playing through some chord transitions. If I just pick up my guitar and play a C, no problem I’ll hit it about 98%.

Another suggestion, if you just need to play a C chord to get through a particular song that has some easier chords. You can sub in the Cadd9, which looks like a G but you move your index and middle fingers down one string. This is actually a lot easier to play than either the C or the G, because there is less reaching necessary. Also if you are transitioning between the C and the G, very little movement is required.

I had so little to go on based on your question and the bit of info available on your profile. I’m regularly on the forums just trying to help in any way that I can. Now it turns out you are much more accomplished than I am as a player.

I really don’t know what to recommend to you with it being an injury issue. Have you explored any treatment methods? I don’t know, perhaps some therapies could help like certain exercises, accupressure, massage or something of that nature?

I don’t think that the Community is going to be able to help you here. We don’t make content or have any influence on what it should be.

    Using this methodology:

The URL looks like all these below, just sub in the name of the challenge that you want in lower case words with dashes only between the words.

For example, today’s lesson was: https://tonypolecastro.com/lessons/captain-starr-2-2/

Take away the captain-starr and sub in the title you want!

    Here are some more examples:

by subbing in “transistor-radio” and “skippin-and-a-jumpin” you get these:

    Transistor Radio: https://tonypolecastro.com/lessons/transistor-radio-2-2/

    and Skippin’ And A Jumpin’ : https://tonypolecastro.com/lessons/skippin-and-a-jumpin-2-2/

There is also a way to call them up as long as you have the actual name of the challenge. You can follow a formula to the generate the URL for any lesson.

So I read up a little bit about it. The jam sessions are on a delay, this is necessary because there is always latency over internet transmissions, but somehow it comes together.

I’ve never tried it but I recall watching Switchfoot perform songs when the bandmembers were isolated during the Covid quarantines. They were playing as a band in perfect time as far as I could tell. Not sure what technology was used.
