Some rockers have their guitars hanging around their knees, but some pros use a much more classical position even while standing. Experiment, whatever works!

Always nice when you figure out a solution. Wish I had more of those!

I am also in treatment for my right rotor cuff. My upper arm hurts terribly when I play. After months off, I said to heck with it and started playing again anyway, because time’s a’wastin. 10 or 20 minutes a day isn’t impossible, and I’m encouraged by finally getting an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.
Good luck!

Imho sure, you could start it right away. But also one of those things that benefits from doing it over every now and then.

Hi, here is some advice from a fellow beginner. I’ve posted this idea elsewhere on the forums and it got some good reception. It is:
“Don’t think.”
In other words, don’t try to master the challenge, don’t WORRY about your present inability to master the challenge or even come close.
Your ONE job is to SHOW UP, 🙂 work on the challenge for 10 minutes (use a kitchen timer), mark complete, and walk away. Critical part: show up the NEXT day, put in the 10 minutes. And so on.
The point of Tony’s method is simply to get a guitar in your hands every day and play it, while learning some little snippet of technique and/or theory almost automatically. Competency, much less mastery, is entirely beside the point.
Over time, it adds up, and you improve almost as if by magic. Just by showing up for a few minutes!
And, soon you might be encouraged to spend more time at it, or tackle specific things, which is great, but be careful never to let the “just showing up” fall by the wayside. It is the indispensable core of your progress.
Prayers and best wishes to you and your beautiful sister.

Applause! One of my favorites from the 90s. Awesome job. Even if you did the G rated version. 🙂
Seriously, excellent guitar and voice.

The genius of this site is so simple.
DON’T THINK.
Just pull up the challenge and try to learn it—for at least a few minutes. Don’t get it? No problem. Pull up the next challenge tomorrow and try that one. Rinse, repeat.
DON’T THINK. I’m not being sarcastic. I’m perfectly serious. The genius is in establishing the habit, not in perfecting anything.

Excellent advice! I have started to realize the value of repetition, especially for the absolute basics. Don’t skip ahead, work work work on the basics and the work will pay off later on.

Thanks Mark, for my little part. I’ve been away for months with arm trouble but I’m getting good treatment now and playing again. Will rely on you and other good people here to help me get back up to speed. Sounds like you’ve made amazing progress! Congrats!

My wife says I handle everything that way! 😆

Sadly, it has been consigned to the dustbin of history…

Thanks. I finally hooked up with a doctor who found the problem—in about three minutes. He’s on the US Olympic med team! Lucky, lucky me.

Thank you Mike! High praise indeed. Much appreciated.
Now I just have to stick to my own theory… 😆
