Wow superb Kay, and what a difference between the 2 videos. Thanks for
the link to Sean’s site – it looks like a great resource. I’m gonna make
this version of Blackbird my weekend project, starting this week -
Very nice Marty. The fingering looked pretty straightforward, I’d like to have a shot at that, can you point me at the tab? Did you devise your own finger style pattern for it? Cheers.

You’re welcome Kevin. Something that occurred to me later is that musicians who whine about copyright etc probably learned to play by copying other artists of yesteryear.

Hi Barbara, I have pretty slow internet, even on a good day, so Tony buffers quite a bit. My workaround is to hit the pause button then go and make a coffee – by the time I get back the video progress bar has crept up enough for me to play the whole video uninterrupted. I’ve had real issues with keeping up with the fingering, I just slow down to half speed. Not ideal, but hey-ho.

Wow, you are setting a high bar Kevin! You really give me hope that
these daily 10-minutes (in reality hours, once I get going) will pay
off. I can’t imagine Dave Gilmour or Roger Waters throwing a hissy-fit
at people covering Wish You Were Here; in fact I reckon most
composers/groups would be flattered that ordinary folk make the effort to learn and play their work. -
Hehehehe I forgot that I’m 14 hours ahead of TAC, assuming they are on
Mountain Time……..effectively their Monday is more like my Tuesday!
Bugger it, I’ll treat myself to a day off. -
Thanks Moose, I’ll try that. The mole (vise)-grips are playing havok with my guitar neck.

Hi Jeff, I read that rubbing/isopropyl alcohol rubbed into the fingertips with cotton wool daily helps to harden them up. Roy

MemberMarch 5, 2024 at 9:04 pm in reply to: My guitar sounded better in the corner collecting dust then when i try to play!Hi Rob, I am halfway through the 5-Day challenge but I’ve been an on/off player for 10 years, only started recently after a long layoff. One of my major frustrations/weaknesses has been mis-cueing the pick, then that leads to messing up the fretting hand, and frustration. I’ve worked on it really consistently since I started TAC.
Firstly, I go dead slow to start with, maybe 30bpm, and secondly I cue the pick at the correct string before I fret. So I glance at the strings, place the pick ready to strum, then immediately attend to the fretting hand. I find that this way I’m starting to get a feel for where the pick is.
I’ve also started doing what Tony does, and it helps me; I anchor my pick pinkie just below/close to the high E and focus on stayng loose/no tension in the picking hand. I’m definitely making progress.

Brandon,
I think I’m right; the Daily Challenges actually span a 5-day week,
starting basic on Monday and building up to the final goal on Friday.
I’ve been on and off since 2014 and so I’ve picked up a bit along the
way and the skills courses have content that I will be dipping into at
some point, particularly barre chords which I’d love to nail. Going back
to your main point (I think), Tony does not throw us in at the deep and
we sink or swim; throughout the process we learn incrementally in small
easily digestible chunks. Hope that makes sense. -
It’s a bit of both Craig, and I think it’s because the bass on the track
sounds over dominant to me, in comparison with how it sounds when Tony
plays it. You’re right, it is the same; I’ll play with my audio settings
and see if I can boost the high end and drop the low. -
Re-post…… I seem to be getting formatting symbols when I type directly into the forum… this is typed into a new email, cut and paste……
Hi, I’m in Week 4, Follow These Steps To Your First Guitar Solo, and I’m a wee bit confused. In the lesson Tony is playing over what sounds like a regular (gentle) backing track, but after the lesson when I play the backing track link I’m getting a strong blues bassline that I’m finding impossible to play along with – even with the volume right down on the PC the “backing track” is too dominant and conflicts with the scale I’m trying to play. Or am I missing a trick here? Cheers.
