I recommend reviewing and practicing the foundations of fretboard navigation unit. It details the simple patterns that can be used to find all of any particular note on all strings up and down the fretboard. It’s a very helpful tool/skill to be able to find or determine any note without memorizing the fretboard.

  • I agree with the previous replies. TAC has created the habit, provides a support system and a fantastic broad base of fundamental techniques in the skills courses and fretboard wizard. Check out the Jam Along Songs in the skill courses and the song vault Kit mention for some great starter songs. I see TAC as my daily warm up and if some days I just warm up, that’s ok, I show up every day.

    Brilliant!

This idea is even more valuable for those of us with satin finish guitars. The icky doesn’t just wipe off like it does on a gloss finish. Thanks Fred!

    Hi Kit,

Where is this Flat Picking song vault you refer to?

It’s not in the Fretboard Wizard material. It’s in the “Skills Courses” (one of the options on the left side of the home page screen) under the “Learn the Fretboard” heading.

Check out the Eastman offerings. The MD515 puts a smile on my face every time I pick it up.

I highly recommend picking about on a mandolin if you’re looking for some variety. Loads of fun and a totally different tone.

Well, now I have to try it out on my mandolin.

I tried my G7 capo on my D12-1 and it didn’t work at all. Works great on all my six strings. Interested to see where you land on this. I assume you’re talking about a capo for your Taylor 562CE.

On a tangent thread, I have 562CE arriving this week, largely due to high praise from you and Tony (and most other reviews I read too, truthfully). I’m going to replace an old beater Jasmine on the guitar wall the Taylor and see how long it takes my wife to notice. They’re both small body, dark toned cutaways. If (when)she calls me out I’m going to blame you.😉

Thanks Cadgirl! Wow, what a gold mine. Just what I need at this point in my journey.

It’s going to look great, smell great and sound great in your hands. You won’t be able to resist picking it up every day. Mine has made remarkably few snarky comments about my playing. Congratulations and here’s hoping your HD-28 is as supporting of your efforts as mine has been!

You won’t be disappointed in the HD-28. I’ve had mine for four months now and I absolutely love it.
