I really enjoyed your playing. This is such a beautiful tune and I think you played it quite well.

    And only a dozen takes!!

Well Done!! Practicing while waiting to load your truck has been time well spent. As a Jimmie Rodgers fan you might be interested in an album of his songs by Merle Haggard that can be found on YouTube. We had it back in the ’70’s. I think you would appreciate it here is the link

Another great job of finger picking and thumb control. The thumb is the anchor for sure. I have been trying to get through the skill course of Tonys’ for finger picking. It is helping but years of bad habits are hard to break. Again good job.

I use my ipad. It allows me to drag a video into Dropbox. My older macBook can’t run new imovie and only gives me a jpeg when going to dropbox from my video file. The new ipad microphone seem to work well. It does nothing for my voice though. Now to get the nerve to put it out there for others to see and hear.

Really nice finger picking!! I am yet to be able to maintain a picking pattern for an entire song like you did. I tend to not be able to keep the thumb rhythm going. Good job.

Go to the forum called “Play for Us” and at the top of the page are instructions for posting a video. The first thing you will need is a youtube account.

All dogs go to heaven!!! They are part of the family. I sure hope that you are not singing this song because your dog has gone over the ‘rainbow bridge’. If so, there is likely a shelter near you with another who needs a home. Nice rendition of this old song also.

    Regards

I have used Pandora for several years. $3/month and it plays all day. Over time I have created channels of my favorite artists. They play some of those artists and others and as you thumbs up songs they play songs of similar styles. As you build channels, then go to shuffle channels and then artists are added for you and thus I have been exposed to very many I have not ever heard of. I’m 72 so have heard a few. We have a lot of unheard of musicians in Texas people have not heard. No Rap cause you can’t spell *rap without Rap.

I think you did a great job. Hammer on a pull off with the pinky ain’t easy. TVZ is one of my favorite artists as also is his best friend Guy Clark. Guys’ wife, Susanna loved him and Guy but Guy found here first.; both of them were wordsmiths extrodinaire(sp?). The story behind the album “My Favorite Picture of You” on YouTube explained that relationship from Guys point of view. You sounded a lot like I do when I’m playing with the unplanned pauses while searching the mind for the lyrics, I have found as you have done that if you can keep them in time it’s like you planned it. Story songs are the hardest, no refrain just lyric after lyric and you have the thumb technique down. Again, great job!

It is said that “You gotta slow to go fast”. That being said, fast is not always better in music. Accuracy is more important, getting the right note at the right time. Something you might try, is just using the back of your index finger as the pick, brushing the strings with the finger nail as the pick. I often use this technique if I find myself without a pick, or also try a thinner gauge pick.

Great job with the thumb. I’m envious of all who can master the thumb action in finger picking. Also, thanks for sharing the lyric site. I have it bookmarked now.

I agree one of my favorite albums. I still have all my old albums(300+) but no longer have a needle for my turntable. The album art and liner notes is a thing of the past. Not the same in the digital world. I still have my first guitar, chosen by a friend, a 1973 Martin D-18,($350 new, a months’ pay for an E-4 at the time, and could not play a single chord). As of last weeks challenge it has been tuned to open D and seems to like the ‘relaxed’ tension. The old wood sounds different. Buying quality instruments pays off in the long run. You have two beautiful ones. Enjoy!

Good job with “Ripple”. As I recall, from a long time ago, that was either from “Workingmans’ Dead” or the “American Beauty” album. The best era of the band IMHO. It looks like you have added to your guitarsenal with what looks like could be a Martin 00-28. Sounds good!!

    BravoZulu again (well done)

Fingerpicking was solid not easy to replace that piano playing in the original. Singing is an art of its’ own for sure. I sang 2nd tenor in jr. high choir. Now I’m a bari-tenor. I don’t care I still sing as if I can. 😎

Sing like no one is listening and dance like no one is watching!!

    IMAGINE …….

Is there any other way to post a video here? I would like to hear what others thought of my playing. Youtube also wants a cell phone number which I am sure gets sold to even more annoying telemarketers. I think I have seen videos from Rumble. I wonder if they are any better.
