Well I’m 61 next month, been wasting the past fourteen years going around in circles and you have my complete admiration for your dedication, persistence and enthusiasm @MikeGaurnier

I look at speed in a way that I do what I can as I only play for my own happiness, although I do the Daily Challenge each day since re starting at TAC 10 days ago and try my best to get everything right, but regardless, I’m really happy now with my guitar outlook and reading your post, so should you be. I’m so happy for you getting this small win, although I bet you’re thinking… should this be a big win 😀

@cadgirl, if we strum loud enough we might be able to hear each other and give marks out of 10 😂

Hi @Loraine and thanks for the priceless tips that will save me valuable time. I will certainly remember your advise, so many thanks and much appreciated 👍

Ps, I want to learn to play Neil Youngs “Old Man”, I love that song and understand that there is muting involved with the palm next to/on the bridge, which isn’t easy to do, but once I learn strumming, I know that I will be able to learn that track 😃

Many thanks @polarpeak75 for mentioning this. I did take a look at the skill courses last night but only got as far as watching the first video and then got drawn in because I found that also what I wanted to learn. But once I’ve replied to all our lovely community friends for all their help and gone through todays Daily Challenge, I’ll certainly be heading over there. I’d love to go there before the Daily Challenge, but somethings telling me I’ll be there all evening 😀 Many thanks and much appreciated

Remember the golden rule @mkjohn, have fun and if you think you have two left hands, just start laughing and know that there’s always an easy answer, keep your playing therapeutic and know that you’re further in your knowledge and skills than you were the last time you played… ain’t it great 😃

Thanks @stevieblues I’ve been playing tonight for a couple of hours now and it seems that for a change, the only buzzing is me 😆

Because we grow over the years with our guitars, we don’t notice that they need attention like sitting up do we, we just tune the strings sometimes and thats it. The lovely sound of this new guitar has made me realise that I need to let a Luthier set it up from time to time.

Well I’ve washed my hands twice since picking it up 😂, don’t worry I won’t be wearing latex gloves to keep the finger prints away, however I did get a bottle of Ernie Ball instrument polish and a cloth as well as a Music Nomad humidify and temperature monitor. I never bothered with my Tanglewood but that was only £204.00 14 years ago. I was thinking of storing it on the ceiling between Daily Challenges so it doesn’t get damaged, it’s a nightmare isn’t it

Hi @mkjohnsons and thanks for adding your thoughts as well as struggles. What I have done is just grabbed two or three notes of the lick I can play reasonably ok at the same tempo as the lick. Forget about playing all of the lick, just grab two or three notes. Then go through them notes as many times as you need and even jumble them up. Maybe play them back to front if you like, there’s no set pattern and we don’t have to play the notes in the same order as the lick even.

Then when you’re ready, just play one of the notes at any given point along the lick (you can stop and start and leave gaps if you like, you haven’t got to play the note or notes continuously, just throw it in when you think your ready and after a while add two notes when your ready, either together or separated. Try this continuously and add more notes from the lick when you’re ready and surpisingly very soon, you’ll be adding lots of various notes from the lick.

Maybe it’s because your adding the notes slowly because you’re learning and that is why it doesn’t sound right, but just carry on getting use to adding any of the notes and gradually as you get faster (no rush at speed) they will sound more natural. Then when you’re ready, try the odd slide or bend now and then to give the sound some flavour.

I may be wrong, but I believe that if the lick notes and the backing track are both in the same scale, then it doesn’t matter what order you add the notes, it will all sound great. I hope I’m correct at what I’ve told you here, because that’s what I’m doing and everything sounds fun and that’s what we all want you to have, so persevere and see how you get on, my best wishes to you as you practice 👍
