Welcome to the TAC fam! I hear sentiments like yours often, which doesn’t say much for in person guitar lessons, books and other sites. I learned to play guitar here, so it’s definitely worth it. I will say to not completely shut the door on one on one lessons, just maybe wait a while to get some of the foundational skills down that you’ll learn here. I supplemented TAC with private lessons after a year, and if you find the right teacher they won’t be offended or threatened by you continuing lessons here, and they will actually work with you towards complimentary goals. My guitar teacher said I was more advanced at a year than most of his 3+ year students. He also listened to me and worked towards my goals and not his own goals.

Keep in mind that playing guitar is not the easiest instrument to learn. Don’t get too discouraged if you’re not playing a lot of songs for a while. It takes time and practice.

@langerking Woohoo! So glad you pushed past your fear. You will continue to grow each time you put yourself out there.

You did great. You became more confident as you went along. Great wrist action on strumming hand. You were transitioning well and became more confident with your capability as you played. The fact the you can put vocals to playing is a great feat. Singing and playing are challenging, but you knew the song well and performed very well.

Keep up the great work. I look forward to more recordings and watching up you grow on your journey!.

@langerking Thank you so much for posting How you TAC. These used to be commonplace quite a while back. I enjoy getting to know others through them. I appreciate the photo too. My mantra, Keep On Plunking!

@michaelsbicycles1gmail-com You are not alone with this. In fact, I probably see this comment more than any other basic chord. I had the same problem when I was newer.

You’ve received some great feedback. The only thing I’ll add that I did was to push my index finger up (even infringing upon the low E – 6th string. You’ll mute the low E, but that’s okay, because that is not a string that you play with the C chord. By pushing the index finger up, your index won’t hang over the string and mute the d, and it allows your middle finger a little wiggle room for fretting the D string.

@Moose408 Congratulations on your NGD! I get wanting a specific color. I want a red Gibson like Charlie Starr of Blackberry Smoke plays.

I hope you have a lot of fun playing her. You’ll have to post a video.

You nailed it! Always look for the silver lining. There is always something positive, whether it be playing a clean chord, playing a scale, completing a lesson, and so much more. By finding something positive, you will actually be in a better position for success than many others that give up before the miracle happens. The first 3 years can be rather stressful and daunting, as you learn the foundational skills necessary to really play well. But then all of a sudden this things just start falling into place, and you’re able to play things that were a struggle before. It’s so much fun when it happens.

@bkalemkiarianaol-com Welcome to the TAC community. As with your fretti, there is what is termed string or fret awareness, where your fingers basically build up muscle memory over time that allows you to play without a lot of thought. Is comes over time, through practice, and as Moose has explained, practice. I use a metronome a lot to help me with chord transitions, accuracy, and with speed. I actually shoot for 10 in a row, not 3 as mentioned by moose.

But, the premise is to start slow and build up speed and accuracy.

@bieber-kennethcomcast-net Welcome to the TAC community Ken. You’re off to a great start by taking the 30 days to play course.

My suggestion is to check out the Quick Start. It is towards the bottom of the menu items at the left. Then, in the Skills courses, you see the Getting Started Courses. <b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;”> After you complete the, then consider implementing the Daily Lessons. You can take any of the other skills courses as you like. It is your own program, and you can approach it any way you want.

Thanks so much Mike. We’ve both come a long way I on the past 4 years.

  • You’re so kind Braden! Thank you so much for a,ways having something nice to say and for your support .

  • @langerking I told myself about 3 or so years ago that I was going to put everything out there – good and bad. It is probably a good thing. I think it helped me get better. I had never played guitar, and it has not come easily to me. I had to get past my fear of playing poorly, being judged, judging myself, and rejection or ridicule. I know I’m not a great player and will never be, and I’m okay with that. I’m having so much fun.

Singing and playing are diff8cult, but not impossible. Start with an easy song that sounds like the music (same cadence, short and easy Examples are happy birthday, row row row your boat, itsy bitsy spider, twinkle twinkle little star). Just do one strum per beat. I posted so many videos where I was out of tune, off beat, etc. Who cares. The next time, you’ll play it a bit better.

So, moral of the story. Just do it!

  • Haha. I was a youngster then. I probably wasn’t even allowed to listen to that type of music. I began my adventures as a blacksheep rebel between 10-12. lol
