It looks like it should be so simple. I have a heavy hand on the strings, and it is something I’ve consciously had to work on to try and loosen up. I think overall, I like to strum hard sometimes with certain rock songs, but that shouldn’t be the case with the majority of songs I play.
I have a disorder where my muscles are always tight, so I have a tendency to be very tight when trying to strum, and this leads me to have a heavy hand strumming. When I am able to relax a little, I find that I can ease up on the tension of my strumming hand and not have to use as much pressure.
Try to keep in mind, it takes very little pressure from a pick to make sound on strings. Try to imagine the pick is a feather that you’re fanning up and down over the strings very gently. You’ll be surprised when you can loosely fan the pick and it plays beautifully, and the pick will glide over the strings so much more smoothly.

You think so fast on your feet and make the improv’s sound so good Charlie. I can only envy you, mainly because ai don’t even try. Someday a I’ll get around to trying to do improv again. Great job – Just beautiful!

Have to agree with the others, you did a great job with the timing and playing this. I didn’t realize this was coming back.

I only try three scales against the backing tracks occasionally now, but when ai do ai notice it has gotten easier, but does it sound better —. LOL — That’s the million dollar question? Lol. Eh… some day. Really great small wins though! Keep on doing what you’re doing. Slow, steady, moving, forward, and you’ll continue to get better!

Hi @BarbaraM You bring up such an interesting question, and I think the answer is it depends on the Peterson. Not everyone is astute at reading tab. They may be able to play chords or individual notes, but not really read tabs. Another person will be very astute at playing by ear. That is a skill that Tony introduces in the Fretboard Wizard course, but it really is an acquired skill that not everyone is capable of. I personally would not be able to do what you do. I need to watch the videos typically, but not always. I’ve gotten to the point where I can go straight to the tab sheet and typically understand and play what is shown. I don’t necessarily have to hear it played in order to play it. Others may or may not be capable of that. I’m not sure you’re experiencing the TAC training the way it was meant to be taught, but if it works for you, thempn that’s all that matters.

@Big-Jim Welcome the TAC community! Know that you’re not alone at the onset. As with anything new. It can be overwhelming and frustrating. As Bea asked, it would help to know exactly what is frustrating you. You started off mentioning just your profile. Is that where the problem is? Is there something we can assist you with or answer doe you?
If it’s direction in the program, I typically suggest everyone start with Tony’s guide that’s titled “Quick Start Guide” that is found in the left margin. Then, I suggest, the the Getting Started Guide found in the Skills Section. Here’s a link. https://tonypolecastro.com/skills/ This gives you a step by step guide as to how to get started with TAC. Lastly, keep asking questions in the forums, and post small wins as they happen..

@the-old-coach You always say such kind things. Thank you. Your comments encourage me too. I simply pass on what was so freely given to me when I first joined TAC. I was taken under the wings of a few really great souls who really cared about me as a person and have become good friends, and helped me on my journey involving the guitar and my personal life..
