@Duane58 It really was a fun week, and the fact that you progressed while doing so makes it all the better? Keep on plunking away!

@PattyV Congratulations on completing the 30 days to play and the 5 day guitar routine. If you haven’t done so yet, consider taking the Next 6 chords, and the most important one, Stretching. You want to avoid hurting yourself, which happens more often than you would think. I got tendonitis and tennis elbow from not stretching and overuse and pulling on muscles and tendons. I couldn’t play for nearly 6 months while it healed (with the help of acupuncture and an ortho.
Tony does have a great attitude and laid back style. I too like that he preaches progress over perfection. You will grow and get better just by continuing to move forward and not worrying about perfecting it in the early days of playing. Some of these skills are beginner skills, but others are intermediate and advanced, so no wonder we find them challenging.
Keep at it. You’re doing great!

@dbvirago I often think no way when I hear a challenge, but it’s typically no where near as hard as I thought it would be. And it does get easier as time goes on. This is particularly evident when the lessons rotate back around, and we’re able to pick up on them quicker and play them faster and more smoothly.

@C3Guitar Great question, and the answer is … It’s a personal preference. I personally used a .6-.7 for strumming, and I use a 1.0 for flat picking. I actually began strumming with an even thinner pick when I first started, and I’ve worked my way up. Some say you should try and work up to a 1.0 or so for strumming, but I’m unable to do that. So, I currently stick with the lighter gauge. For flat picking, it’s a different ballgame. I want a sturdy pick that I can do alternating picking with quickly, and the higher gauge allows that and sounds better when flat picking.

Seems like your crushing through things, and you’ve gotten a handle on the dailies, and you’re not a new player, so you can incorporate FBW anytime. My suggestion is take your time going through it and really try and digest the material. I do not suggest trying to take several lessons at once. I would take quite a while with the patterns on the fretboard and really getting to know the individual notes on the strings. Ask questions in the forums when you need to. The community is always willing to help as best they can.

@dbvirago 10 minutes is really quite simple. Commit to the minimum of 10 per day, and you’ll be better than you were the day before, and there is a science behind the 10 minutes per day. You’d have to ask someone that can remember what it was exactly. Tony reads a lot and is very positive and he puts into action a lot of things he strongly believes will help others.
The key is to focus on a lesson and playing the guitar for that 10 minutes. When taking lessons, once you have the 10 minutes in, just mark the lesson complete. You can walk away at that point and pat your self on the back for doing what you committed to do. As you said, you often practice more than 10 minutes per day, which is quite all right. Don’t spend too long in one sitting at any one thing. It can actually backfire and be counterproductive. I like to split up playing sessions into multiple 10-15 minute sessions throughout the day. Know when it’s time to walk away and come back another time. It’s about progress, not perfection.
There were many times I could only commit 10 minutes per day, especially when my mother was alive and I was her full time caregiver. It was usually a quick destressor at 10 p.m. or later after she was down for the night.

You never disappoint @BethL . It’s been quite a while since I heard this tune. Loved your energy and overall performance. Gotta love power chords. They’re so much fun.

And I wasn’t aware of the glitch with the small electronics taking you to the original FBW. that’s not a bad thing, but the updated one is said to be better.

Thanks @paul21 . I’m trying to play the song with percussive slaps on beats 2 & 4, which would make it sound more like the regular song. But it’s going very slow and is hard trying to play where it sounds syncopated and then to put vocals to it, seems impossible.. In the meantime, this is simply my own rendition of the song.
