Wow Marisa! What a lovely rendition, of a classic.

I am in awe of your talent, playing well, and singing well, & at the same time! I can play, a little… I can sing… a little, baritone & bass. But, (sorry, I know I’m not supposed to start with a conjunctive), if try to do both, together, then both fall apart.

Have you always played and sung at the same time?

If you learned one first, how did you combine, the two?

    How do you keep time?

    Is that to many questions?

    Did it again, didn’t I?

    Doh!

So… your performance made me smile, & wish to be able to do that.

    Thank you.

    BIG Grin, from Oz.🇦🇺😋👏

    Dear Carol-3M-Stillhand,

Thanks so much for your kind reply. I glad you found some value min my story. The most unexpected result of practising consistently, on things I don’t know, is that after only 6 days, I’m already seeing the shoots of results. My plectrum work is getting smoother, & more accurate & I’ve got some new basslines to play finger style.

I’m not real good on this social interaction thing (years as a programmer), but I’m trying.

    🎼🎸👏🏽🇦🇺

    G’day from humid Brisbane🇦🇺.

This is my second day on the challenge.

This the first post I’ve read.

Remarkably, our stories are quite similar. I’m 10years younger than you & I’ve had a bunch of resources available to me that you didn’t, but I’m intrigued with your thoughts & progress in TAC.

I’m primarily a finger style guitarist, I’ve played &learned constantly for 5 years.I like where I’m at finger style wise, but man… have I ever got some flipping great holes in my knowledge, & techniques. Here to fix that.

I’m gonna post up properly after I’ve finished my practice.

Your post makes me feel like this is the right place to lean & connect.

    Thanks.

Thanks Marisa, I appreciate the input & tips. I think I’ll have a go at “The water lets you in,” by Book of Fears. It’s a simple forward roll played over G C D, with the odd A min, thrown in for variety. I can play it in my sleep & I’ve bought a copy of the original song, so I can sing along with that.

Thank you for your kind words. I’m glad you found some value in my post. It was a bit of a whinge, but the point was, be a bit kind with your comments, you never know when they cut to the bone.

My dad & I had a good relationship at the end & I’m kinda sorry he never got to hear me play. His favourite musician was Willy Nelson. Willy’s been one of my favourites for decades too.

I learned a basic version of “The Red Headed Stranger” by the same about a year ago. It’s a super simple Boom Chick strum, but like all supper simple music, there’s a trap… any mistakes stick out like dog’s balls =8-O.

Really enjoying the 30 days to play, most of it rip through in minutes, but there are some Gems in there.

Learned to shuffle, learned a base-line, learned the blues boogie. It’s really simple, basic stuff, but I love learning it, then playing with & changing it.

Louie, Louie… never thought to play that with power chords… clever!

Washington, eh? I was in your neck of the woods, 3 years ago. The Mrs & I did a cruise from Florida, around the islands, through the canal, & up the west coast to Sitka. Went by the inside & outside passages.

Man that’s some soggy, beautiful country you live in my friend.

    Anyhow, back to the guitar.

    Keep on pickin’ man.
