A classic by Joni Mitchell. I was going more for the Indigo Girls version. You should check both out. 👍🏼 @Loraine

Beautifully played and sung as ever. I love this track but I wasn’t aware of the Indigo Girls version so I’ll have to look that up. Your one still had all the feel and elegance of the original although as you say you were channelling the new(er) version. I think the jingle bells refrain worked really well on guitar – it was played on piano in the original if I remember right – just a lovely touch. Thanks for treating us to this one.

Thank you for your very thoughtful comments on my humble offerings. I think I achieved a kind of hybrid version of the 2 artists, and that is fine. (You can never unhear Joni’s version) I went with the Indigo Girl’s key. The awesome thing is prior to TAC, I had no access to a song like this. Strumming the chords doesn’t cut it. Now, by fingerpicking; travis-style here, a pinch there, I can approach music like this and make it sound like I want. That is the freedom! 🙌🏼 @Moonhare

So cool. That is the payback isn’t it? I’m hoping to go to my first VOM this Thursday. Don’t know if I’ll be playing but will be good to see how it all works.

That is awesome! I have never done a VOM, timing never right. I’m sure you will love it.

That was amazing! Nice camera composition. I didn’t know that was an INDIGO GIRLS song either. I was lucky enough to see them play in Scottsdale AZ. right before COVID. It was nice not having to worry about the Air! You took several parts and blended them nicely. Give me something to strive for producing waaayyy in the future.

I have seen Indigo Girls a handful of times throughout the years, they are amazing. I don’t think they recorded River for an album, but have played it in concert. You will find it on Youtube for sure. I got a tripod for my phone- so I was able to work on the whole angle thing and brought my recording space over to the fireplace as I was getting a huge ray of sunshine in my piano nook where I usually record. It totally worked for this piece! Thanks for watching. @Jacquelyn M. R

Wow Marisa! What a lovely rendition, of a classic.

I am in awe of your talent, playing well, and singing well, & at the same time! I can play, a little… I can sing… a little, baritone & bass. But, (sorry, I know I’m not supposed to start with a conjunctive), if try to do both, together, then both fall apart.

Have you always played and sung at the same time?

If you learned one first, how did you combine, the two?

    How do you keep time?

    Is that to many questions?

    Did it again, didn’t I?

    Doh!

So… your performance made me smile, & wish to be able to do that.

    Thank you.

    BIG Grin, from Oz.🇦🇺😋👏

Hey @Timo67, if you are having fun, you are there! My process may be very different from yours. I like to learn the music with lyrics- this helps my to feel where the chord needs to change. I would suggest having either the music or the singing down cold, so you only need to think about one, if you are having trouble pulling them together. I keep time in my head, if something is intricate, my foot keeps time. I am only playing and singing this past year or so, but I have been musical all my life. Start with a song that you really know well, so you don’t need to learn from scratch. Also, go slowly- one bar, one phrase at a time…then add the next. I hope this helps. And, I hope you playing brings you joy! Post something soon! 👍🏼

Thanks Marisa, I appreciate the input & tips. I think I’ll have a go at “The water lets you in,” by Book of Fears. It’s a simple forward roll played over G C D, with the odd A min, thrown in for variety. I can play it in my sleep & I’ve bought a copy of the original song, so I can sing along with that.
