Hey Brandon,
Congrats on starting guitar learning! It is overwhelming when you first start, as you can’t clearly see the road ahead… As Carol said, it’s not an easy instrument to master… and for that reason it’s best to start with baby steps. Might seem like it’s taking ages but if you are dedicated to your instrument and want results try to make time everyday for 10mins or more (without making your fingertips too sore of course). Repetition is the key to improving in my case and for many of us. Might sound boring to some but repetition will improve your muscle memory. I never thought i would be where i’m at now when i first started! my fingers seemed really dumb but i got through it and gained fingers independence by sticking through it thick and thin. Everyone can do it! all you need is patience, dedication and not having expectations as they kill the fun of playing (as Jumping Jeff would say! 😉 ) You should be able to play simple songs soon enough with that in mind 😉 Enjoy your guitar playing!

Hey John,
that happens a lot when you are a beginner, and could be a few different reasons, so don’t despair. Could be that your finger placement is too far from the fret, or a pressure issue, ie. too light, could be that your nails are slightly touching adjacent strings… try to pick individual strings as you go through your chord, to see what needs amending

it will come with time of practice and stretches, so don’t loose hope. Also, for power chords, only the bass (lower) strings are strummed, so it’s ok if your pinky isn’t curved enough yet 😉

That was wonderfully played Camilla. Nice control of your notes, smooth and relaxed, well done! Very enjoyable. And congratulations on your first post too! Jeep them coming!

Hi Lolli
Do you mean the Wednesday improvisation?
The idea is to use the notes from the scales given and improvise a melody over the chords from the backing track. Just by selecting any notes that you feel would go along within the chords played. It doesn’t have to be the sequence in the order of the scales, but rather an improvised melody.
If you like you could do a search and check the various improvs from people who have posted on the forum just to get an idea

Hi folks,
it takes a while for the fretting hand to adjust to all those new positions, patience and practice will be your friends… also, check your positions, on the chair, the position of your guitar on your leg, which leg do you use to rest it on, do you have it sitting square or at an angle with the neck pointing slightly forward (which helps a lot). Also, depending on the size of the guitar you use, i could affect your hand position a great deal. Try to sit it on your left leg to see if it’s any better (if you a right handed person), and use the classical position, it could work wonder 😉
curling the fingers and using the very tip of your fingers definitely helps, and very, very short nails
PS, don’t forget to warm up before sessions with finger stretching exercises 😉
Hope that helps

Well, i could play some songs, albeit not very well, before i joined TAC. So with the practice of the techniques on here and commitment the skills improved a great deal… Can’t really give you a timeline but you should be able to pick up the skills reasonably quickly if that’s your goal, depending on how much you practice of course… no pain no gain kinda scenario…

Oh really? glad to hear that 😀 and happy to be of help too along the way… 🙂
