Figured it out
I usually look up the chords or tabs to most of the songs I play. Youtube and the Ultimate Guitar tab app have almost every song ever made and good chance of maybe having some tutorials too for whatever song you are looking for
I have been playing Honky-Tonk Heroes by Waylon Jennings for a while now. I love bass walk ups and walk downs
I noticed there are a lot of tutorials for the song on YouTube but everyone only explains the first slow intro half of the song before the tempo picks up and the song rocks out as it repeats. Right before the song speeds up he does this cool transition riff that isnt in any of the tutorials or available online tabs. Pretty much every cover of this song that does have that part has people in the comment section begging the person to tell them how to do it.
Today I sat down and figured it out. I have never bothered/been able to do that on my own before. I just kept playing the song video over and over until i found it on the fretboard. It was exciting enough to make a quick how to video and post it on youtube since this information is apparently hard to come by for this song.
My small win is being able to give something back to the online music community that I lean on so heavily. Its a win to me because it means i am getting better if i can do that. Not quite ready to do a whole song by ear but its step in the right direction. I admit i have been lazy with my ear training because its so much easier to just look it up but this one wasn’t available.
