New to guitar and TAC
Posted by JJM on January 7, 2022 at 8:28 amGood day to all. I’ve completed the 30 days to play and I’m working through the next six cords. I don’t have a clue on how to play my first song. Is there a method that works day in and day out?

Hi @JJM and congrats on starting your guitar journey! Might I suggest you look at a site that shows the chords for songs you actually know and like? Once you have the songs in front of you just practice them daily and hope it all sinks in. I’ve found playing the tunes I like is motivating and thus I play more which means I improve and can play more difficult songs all the while. Good luck and have fun!

@JJM Welcome to TAC and also welcome to the guitar geek world!! Congratulations on completing the 30 Days to Play!! Big Win for you there.
If you’d like to learn your first song, might I recommend the Skill Courses here at TAC? That section is directly above the “Forums” and below the “Daily Challenge” on the side menu bar. Many of the TAC Skill Courses utilize a complete song as the framework for learning the skill set for that course. And each course is complete with printable TABS and a series of short video lessons from Tony Polecastro. So you will be learning a complete song and polishing up a focused set of guitar skills at the same time!! Another big win x2!!
Best wishes and Happy New Year!!

@JJM Welcome to TAC & congrats on completing the 30 days to play. 8n the Skills section, you might want to take a look at the Jumpstart courses. The finger and flatpicking ones teach you songs. TAC doesn’t teach songs per se, but it focuses on building a practice routine and on fundamentals. There are a lot of great sites and YouTube videos that teach full songs. Google 2 and 3 chord beginner songs. Good luck and have some fun with it!

Yes, @JJM there is a method that works day in and day out. HAVE FUN! Just pretend you are a kid. Don’t ever try to master anything. Every time you approach your guitar or the lessons, think of it as going to the playground. The lessons are the “playground” rules. You have to know them… sorta. You have to follow them… sorta.
