Better late than never. Wish I had used this “bridge” between “30 days to play” and jumping into the daily challenges about one year (300+ playing sessions) ago when starting TAC. With that said, I spent this weekend going through the “5 Day Guitar Challenge” course. I’m glad I did. It really has helped my mindset regarding daily challenges which have been often a love & hate thing for me as a novice guitar player. Today, however, I feel really good that above all the else I can claim consistency as my biggest win using TAC.

I am really happy for you @Guitargeezer-Jack because that realization is huge. It makes the difference between having fun and progress and continuing in a guitar rut.

Tony has explained his method in various videos and on the AT show. So many people either don’t watch the “basic” information or they don’t understand it. I was one who had difficulty understanding. Of course, my brain told me I understood, but I didn’t really get it until @jumpinjeff and @dr_dave beat it into my head that trying to “master” anything, a lesson or a technique or the guitar in general, was actually counter productive.

The idea is to “try” to do a lesson. If you can do it, it’s too simple. You must be challenged if you are to learn. It doesn’t really matter how over your head it seems. If you just keep at it, you will notice improvement. And since Tony’s lessons cover the range of guitar skills, you will improve all across the guitar skill board.

Congratulations. This was a really huge deal for me. I was able to have more fun and therefore started making advancement quite a bit faster… because I wasn’t trying and I didn’t care… go figure.

I keep meaning to go through the 5 day challenge (that’s one of the newer skills courses), and maybe now I’ll commit to it. Great win on your commitment within TAC @Guitargeezer-Jack !

@Loraine I found it to be a refreshing review for the basics of Daily Challenges. I suspect you will too.

So if I’m “Mentor Mike”, what do we call you @jumpinjeff , the “Musical Mentor”? I think I like that, the Musical Mentor. What do you think @Guitargeezer-Jack ?

ya, I dunno, I am just a dude who did it the hard way for a long time and then Tony’s message started to sink in. I get that the hard way is sometimes the only way for those of us with thick skulls but Tony’s way if you pay attention is not so tough. If I can help someone see the solution I am just doing what dudes did for me when I couldn’t see it and yet it was right there. Trace @Ovid73 once told me to play until my fingers hurt then stop until they don’t hurt and then play again. So simple. That is the words of a mentor.

I guess that’s how we get to be mentors, @jumpinjeff , we pass on the words of wisdom that were freely given to us.
