Broke my Streak – Playing Anyway!
Posted by Kitman on September 4, 2022 at 1:34 pmAlthough I actually played quite a bit of guitar yesterday, I did so without logging into TAC and… my “streak” was reset. At first I was thinking “oh crap”! Then I took a moment to think about it. I am still learning, having fun and playing so – no biggie! That is a win for me! 😎🎸🎶

I’ve been thinking about this lately, too, as we’re going away for a few days at the end of September and it won’t be practical to bring a guitar along. But like you say, as long as those playing sessions keep adding up, the streak really doesn’t matter much. Sometimes I think it might be good to have a bit of a break then come back refreshed and redetermined😃

I’m so sorry to hear that forgot to login yesterday. Tie a string to the headstock of your guitar to remind you to login. Glad you didn’t let it stop you from playing!

👍🤩👍 That’s a great streak! We all have to start from a beginning to reach our ends, according to Machiavelli 🤔🎸 So play on my friend – the journey continues😎

Thanks @Cadgirl ! I actually did a bench mark recording last week after I had around 120 days at TAC. I compared it to a recording from when I just joined TAC. There was a noticeable difference in the tone, quality and confidence of my playing. I really like the idea of the “100 day video check in” and will definitely keep it going. Great idea and thanks for sharing! 😎🎸🎶

@Kitman I ran into the same thing two weeks ago as I had an early appointment that lasted most of the day. Second time my consecutive log in streak ended, most recently at 276. Prior to that I was out in the boonies with no WiFi or iPhone service. It happens. You are so right – it not the streak that counts – it is consistently playing one’s guitar!
@Cadgirl has the right idea
about periodically doing a video self evaluations. I have gone back to my earlier Play for Us songs and discovered I not only have rendition but they are much easier to play and able to add learned techniques too!

Hey @Guitargeezer-Jack , I guess this summer got away from us as far as getting together again. I sounds like both of us have a full acoustic life and family life, so no worries. But it’s something on my back burner.
I’m glad to hear you’re progressing in your guitar journey. Me too. 😎

I had a streak of a year going and it started to feel like “feathers weighing me down”(L’il Smokies on YouTube check it out) so I intentionally let them go. The streak is a fun TAC feature and an incentive for me but fun is the objective. My current steak is about 17.

Kit, seeing you play in the VOM’s and what you post, it is clear that TAC’s formerly very and now less so glitchy “counter” is not what is motivating you. You are playing so well, and smiling so much that getting logged in has to be secondary. Congratulations on the fun and joy (counter or not).

Wow, thanks so much @AttyTJ for your kind words and support! You are right, I play because I love to play and also spend time with others of like mind to learn and have fun. Thanks for this reminder and your support and friendship, TJ. I truly appreciate it!

Hey @Kitman , it took me about 3 years to break my streak. My longest streak was at 87 for most of that time. Now it’s at 112. Yipey. But obviously, I tripped again and I’ve started over. Whatever. I’m actually proud of the 112. My wife asked me why I was trying to go for a streak record when I slip so often and it really doesn’t make any difference. I told her that’s what I learned from Tony about my guitar routine. You do it because you want to. You don’t need some profound reason beyond that. And you don’t give up. You look at the small wins, not the loses. I used to have trouble making it past 10. Now, I regularly go weeks in stead of days without stopping the count.
Does it matter? Yeah, to me it does. Does it matter that I miss and the count starts over? Yeah, it does. It helps me to be resilient and helps me learn the persistence I need. I don’t feel any great disappointment when it happens anymore. It’s not a deal breaker. And yet I still want to go for another streak. Just that simple exercise in having a good attitude and being persistent is new for me and therefore is helping me to learn.

Hey there @N-lightMike ! Thanks for sharing your experience and perspective on how you utilize the “streak” counter. It is a fun way to stay true to your guitar routine and is an additional piece of feedback that can help inspire us to play and progress. I recently noticed the “weeks” counter and am a bit curious about how that is counted. Is it if you complete the 5 challenges w/in ten week? I will ask support. In any case, thanks for your feedback and support! 😎🎸🎶
